Scriptures that we can memorize together
Loje and 15 others reacted to Stormswift for a topic
For those who aren't musically inclined (see my other thread about memorizing songs down in the music section), We can be fortified by remembering scriptures. Let's share specific scriptures we can as a group memorize so when the GT breaks out and we need extra courage - we will have a wealth of special scriptures that no-one can take from us because they are in our minds and hearts. Today, we had our final CO talk and after he finished his talk, he said he wanted to share a scripture with us that will give us strength. So I'll start with that scripture and if you have others share them please, we have a whole bible to choose from, but the difference here is, I want you to tell us if you have memorized it ... and if you haven't pop back when you have to let us know. Let's encourage one another to stand firm with our precious spiritual food that will safeguard our hearts in the times ahead. Psalms 73:26 - " My body and my heart may fail, But God is the rock of my heart and my portion forever."16 points -

A sister recently told me an experience she had about how Jehovah can do things that solve so many problems in just one transaction. I think it’s a nice example about showing love to our neighbor. The sister said the vacuum cleaners in her Kingdom Hall were not being treated very well, the filters weren't being put in properly and the cords were ruined so she was going to have the vacuums repaired. The brothers decided to buy two new, cheaper vacuums instead of repairing the two old ones. They were very expensive commercial vacuums that were in great shape they just needed to be repaired and serviced. The brothers told the sister she could have the older vacuums and she decided to sell them and recover some of the expense. She took them to the repairman that happened to be two and a half hours away and asked him to help her find a buyer. Nearly two weeks later he found a woman who was willing to buy them and would pay for the repairs. The sister drove the 2.5 hours to get the vacuums and then another 20 miles to deliver them. The woman was so happy that she grabbed the sister, hugged her and told her how much that it meant to her. The woman was a victim of two robberies in which $7,000 worth of her janitorial equipment had been stolen and had property damage done to her in the last two weeks. She was struggling to try to replace the equipment and very grateful she had the opportunity to buy the vacuums and extra supplies. The sister had felt bad that brothers had decided not to keep the commercial vacuums but was grateful that Jehovah may have put people together that have a surplus to help those who have a loss. She felt so good to be able to do so much to help the woman. She used the money to cover her own expenses and put the rest in the contribution box.14 points -

Absolutely! I'm really enjoying reading the revised version, I started with psalms and it's amazing how deep the words are and how easy to understand at the same time. Such a difference to the old version. It was so worth the wait. 😍7 points

Memorizing Words of Songs for Times of Trials
Arumuga Raja and 5 others reacted to Stormswift for a topic
With our amazing Kingdom Songs and Original Songs we have a wealth of songs that fortify us now, but also will also fortify us in the times to come. If you think about the last convention 2018 - Be Courageous - the brother who was in custody for ten days, strengthened himself and also others by remembering and singing I think the old song 35? But I struggle so much memorizing the words to our songs ... so let's do this together ... let's share tips for memorizing and make it our goal to remember words of songs that not only inspire us but fortifies our hearts when we sing I have a few in mind for myself but let's focus on one for now. Let's put lots of effort into this - even if you can't sing - which reminds me if anyone has tips for improving our voices please put up links to videos - jw.broadcasting or other secular tips. At the moment I know parts of songs, I'm ashamed to say I don't know a complete song by heart. So let's start with the faith strengthening "Give me Courage" from our last convention. Let the words below give you strength and courage. Pop back into the thread and let us know too when you have accomplished remembering each song and let us know which song you know by memory. This is going to be fun!! GIVE ME COURAGE .Doubt and fear surround me— The way ahead not clear. Line 1 Through uncertainty you guide me; I know you’re always near. Line 2 Life may not be easy, But this I know is true: Line 3 You’re the God who’s ever loyal; Line 4 My life is safe with you. Line 5 (CHORUS) Jehovah, give me eyes of faith And help me always see Line 6 There are more with us than against us. Line 7 Courageous let me be. Line 8 Courage, give me courage; Line 9 With courage, I’ll endure. Line 10 Jehovah, give me courage; Line 11 Your victory is sure. Line 12 2.Feeling fear is human. Line 13 In my own strength, I’m frail. Line 14 You have been my rock and refuge; Line 15 Your power never fails. Line 16 Help me be courageous, Line 17 And let my heart be brave. Line 18 Lasting harm can never hold me Line 19 — No prison, gate, or grave.Line 20 (CHORUS) Jehovah, give me eyes of faith Line 21 And help me always see Line 22 There are more with us than against us. Line 23 Courageous let me be. Line 24 Courage, give me courage; Line 25 With courage, I’ll endure. Line 26 Jehovah, give me courage; Line 27 Your victory is sure. Line 28 (CHORUS) Jehovah, give me eyes of faith Line 29 And help me always see Line 30 There are more with us than against us.Line 31 Courageous let me be. Line 32 Courage, give me courage; Line 33 With courage, I’ll endure. Line 34 Jehovah, give me courage; Line 35 Your victory is sure. Line 36 Jehovah, give me courage; Line 37 Your victory is sure. Scriptures that we can memorize together
Buttrfly71 and 4 others reacted to Jothob for a topic
Aww what a lovely topic! Thank you for starting it.....😊 My favourite scripture for the last 4 years has been Isaiah 41:10 (yes & it’s this year’s text!) Ever since my hubby passed away so suddenly this scripture has given me comfort beyond my expectations! “Do not be afraid, for I am with you, do not be anxious for I am your God. I will fortify you, yes I will help you. I will really hold on to you with my right hand of righteousness.”5 points -
Everyone can sing- especially if you can hum- just add words in! Being able to sing "well" is not only subjective, it's unnecessary. Just do it! It may be more comfortable if you're alone, but that's the way to get the tune and lyrics into your heart and head. I honestly don't know how to memorize anything without simple repetition... out loud. That's how to learn.. 🤷♀️5 points

This is due to several spelling reforms that took place in the past years, I guess that's an additional reason the revised version took a little longer. Some words, words with a short vowel, no longer have the ß Examples: daß => dass ; Schloß = Schloss ; Maße = Masse (mass) Words that have a long, drawn out vowel are still written with ß Examples: Schoß ; groß ; Maße = Maße (dimensions) You'd think the Germans, with their history, would never go back to bringing back the SS5 points -

Hello to all of you brothers. Preparing for the April 19, 2019 memorial day, does anyone here have previously arranged a nice banner or image to show in our LCD screens? Maybe the bread & wine with the Bible text on top. I would very much appreciate it if you can share. Thanks in advance.4 points -
Good for you Pauline! Remember, you don’t have to explain why to anyone either. If someone keeps pestering you, I’d tell them to “please stop asking”.4 points

Br. Lösch emphasized that the new Bible is primarily for the ministry; he encouraged us not to read the new Bible with a view to criticizing the translation. He also said it is not an aid to learning Hebrew/Greek. On a personal note, it impressed me to know that Br. Lösch 'practises what he preaches'. (Those in attendance would recall that he really emphasized the need to read the Bible daily. Not regularly!) He admitted that he reads the Bible every day, with the goal of completing it every year. You have already read some of the tips he gave for effective reading, such as not doing it before bedtime (goodnight cigarette illustration). One that stuck in my head was not listening to audio recordings of the Bible while driving. He recommended listening to Awake recordings etc instead. I was touched that the FDS really want us to hold the word of God, a love-letter from Jehovah to us, with the highest regard!4 points -

Our Strength, Our Hope, Our Confidence - Song 3 O Jehovah, you have given us a hope that we hold dear. It’s a hope we find so thrilling we want the world to hear. But at times this life’s anxieties are the cause of fears within, And the hope that burned so brightly has suddenly grown dim. (CHORUS) You’re our strength, you’re our hope, you’re our confidence. Whatever we lack, you supply. When we preach, when we teach, we have confidence because it’s on you we rely. So Jehovah, please instill in us a heart that won’t forget, For you’ve always been our comfort when troubled times we’ve met. And these thoughts that lift and strengthen us can revive that dying flame, For they fill our hearts with courage to speak about your name. (CHORUS) You’re our strength, you’re our hope, you’re our confidence. Whatever we lack, you supply. When we preach, when we teach, we have confidence because it’s on you we rely. https://www.jw.org/en/publications/music-songs/sing-out-joyfully/3-our-strength-our-hope-our-confidence/?media=sjjm4 points -

Thanks Tony, I already have SD memory cards, didn't know they sold SD players - I'm buying one! I love using wi-fi speakers, you won't regret it. Talk to Musky about getting talks - there is a website with hundred's of talks, but if I recall, you may need "permission." You can select the ones that interest you personally.3 points

I agree..and isn't that a sign of humility? Only the disciples that stayed and asked questions learned the truth about Jesus.. I just feel it shows interest. Almost first thing we say in our conversations.. Anyway, they don't mean any harm; just kids with moms. I think I just probably ask for more details than they have.. I haven't said it because they haven't said it, but kind of made me laugh when I read that even King David felt the need to say that to someone..3 points

Portable players and speakers can be power dependant, so might use a lot of batteries. If you want to maximise your listening time, a usb player, or even an old phone that can take a SD memory card would play MP3 files with moving parts(saves battery power). If you use ear plugs, you can extend the battery usage. And with a solar panel, you can recharge whenever the sun shines. [emoji295] (PS DVD disks can be recorded with MP3 files, and can carry the same amount of information as 4 or 5 CD'S. It is dependant on the player, so check the specs.) SD card prices are hard to beat, and they require no burning... From $5 to $40 {512 Giga byte}. Plug and play! Just Older [emoji856]3 points -
