  1. That's interesting that you posted this exactly the 10 years after the incident. The MH370 went missing exactly 10 years ago, on March 8, 2014. It's crazy to think how in this digital age, a jumbo sized commercial airplane housing tons of tracking devices, machineries, making communications with the surface, can just go missing off the radar without a trace.
  2. The Library of Babel contains every piece of literature that has ever been, and ever will be. It also includes your very own post and my own (search through the search tab)!
  3. It’s not rare to find two music that sounds similar to each other sometimes—especially if it’s just a part of the music. There is a limit to the number of possible musical arrangements that can sound harmonic to human ears. If it can happen between two secular music, it can happen to our theocratic music as well. For example, some people have suggested the similarities between If I Could Fly by Joe Satriani, and Viva La Vida by Coldplay. Examples like these show that such similarities are abdundant in the music industries, and are most likely unintended. As for the similarity between With Eyes of Faith and You Raise Me Up, I can hear the similarities, but I doubt someone was influenced by it, considering the origin of the music. I remember some time ago, we talked about other examples in the Theocratic Music thread. In that thread, I mentioned this particular example:
  4. Reddit Apps do not give the option to send modmails on private subreddits. You can try visit the subreddit on desktop to access that feature.
  5. Well, I can’t say for sure if that would be a good idea. The only way to find out would be to try actually implement it in your community. Thanksfully you can always change the settings later on. Perhaps another option that you could choose is the ‘restricted’ subreddit, where the public may browse the subreddit, but only approved users may submit. But I can easily see how this can also be abused. Reddit community types: public — anyone can view and submit restricted — anyone can view, but only some are approved to submit links private — only approved members can view and submit premium only — only reddit premium members can view and submit
  6. If the subreddit is private, how would the new people go and join, or test if the subreddit is legitimate? Private subreddit in this context means, a subreddit that is completely closed off from the rest of the Internet. As for this website, some parts of the site is accessible to the World Wide Web. So it is easy to verify the genuity of the forum. But if your Reddit community is completely private, that would not be possible.
  7. That is not the meaning of positive used in that sentence. The word positive can also mean assured, certain. positive 1 of 2 adjective pos·i·tive ˈpä-zə-tiv ˈpäz-tiv Synonyms of positive 1 a : formally laid down or imposed : PRESCRIBED positive laws b : expressed clearly or peremptorily her answer was a positive no c : fully assured : CONFIDENT positive it was her book https://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/positively
  8. Latin typeface for Noto Sans CJK uses Source Hans by Adobe. That may explain why there are differences in the fonts. See noto-fonts/noto-cjk #224. I don’t think that’s related to what we are discussing here though. If I am correct, the font typeface displayed in the blue field actually appears differently from device to device. Which means the exact font may be dependant on the device that you are using. For example, in my device, the character ‘2’ has right angle curve when curving in the bottom, but in your picture, it is curving in an angle less than 90 degrees.
  9. You can still order older bound volumes. In Korea Branch, vol20 through vol23 in English are available for order.
  10. It depends on what you mean by need I guess. As a book it is still a good resource for personal study and meditation in my opinion. The book is also not listed in the listed of items to be discarded for the literature servants. On the other hand, our method of preaching has now changed drastically. Rather than to "reason" with the householder, we try to find those who are "disposed" for everlasting life. On that sense, it may be said it is not "needed" anymore. Exactly. Many brothers seem to use Watchtowers or publications from older than 1980s, or even 1970s or even beyond just to support their opinions. However if some topic hasn't been said again the the last few years or so, I would be cautious in using it. I would personally go even further and I wouldn't even use articles older than 2000s. That is the now recommended year listed in the "list of items to be discarded." That year recommended by the branch has been constantly been updating very fast recently. Jehovah's chariot is moving very fast.
  11. That’s interesting, I didn’t know about it. Thank you. For some reason though, I can’t find the song in the 1966 pink song book, “Singing and Accompanying.” I have all the songs but I couldn’t find there. That reminded me we had an old song 168. Recognising the Earth’s New King, which had the lyric, “Kiss the son, lest God be angry, and you perish in the way.”—Psalm 2:12. The older lyric is more faithful to the original Hebrew, but maybe it’s better to revise it so other people who do not know the Bible very well misunderstand its intended meaning.
  12. I like the old song from the 1984 brown song book, 209. Follow the Warrior King! *** Ssb song 209 Follow the Warrior King! *** https://www.jw.org/finder?wtlocale=E&docid=1101984229&srctype=wol&srcid=share *** iam4 16 Song 209 *** https://www.jw.org/finder?srcid=share&wtlocale=E&lank=pub-iam-4_16_AUDIO Too bad it's not in the current song book. Oh well! I can still listen to it and enjoy it personally.
  13. I don't see any demons in that video. There are scientific and logical explanations for those "pentagon UFO videos" that doesn't involve supernatural answers. The video may as well be depicting mundane objects like a commercial airliner, a jet fighter, a balloon, a bird, or even a random debries flying in the air. We can accept those without involving demons. Chances are, the same is the case with this too.
  14. I believe using bold in some parts is not bad. Even in our literature we can see boldface being used from time to time in certain words or even to sentences. On the other hands, colours or caps are never applied to run-in texts. They are only used for decoration in the headings, such as in the book titles or as part of the design of that book, but otherwise, the main texts would never have any special colours or caps applied.
  15. These image and descriptions are called Open Graph meta tags, and they have to be inserted by the webpage owners. This means the Branch has purposefully inserted them, so I would interpret them being fine with the images displaying when we share the links. I would point out we are okay to share or send electronic files, images or videos through messaging apps. For example, the S-196 document provides a situation where sharing a video directly is useful: *** S-196 p. 2 par. 13 Using Enjoy Life Forever! in the Ministry *** 13. In some areas, using the Internet to stream or download videos may be costly or impractical. However, in most languages, an audio recording of each lesson in Enjoy Life Forever! is available in JW Library, which includes the audio portion of each video in the lesson. Streaming or downloading only the audio recording might adequately reduce Internet costs. Some publishers use a messaging app to send a video to their students, since this method often reduces the file size of the video and thus reduces the cost of accessing it on a device. https://www.jw.org/finder?wtlocale=E&docid=1201196&srctype=wol&srcid=share&par=26
  16. jw.org is not yet updated to the latest revision.
  17. It's under TYNDALE, William. Names of a person are always last name first, first name last.
  18. If content is available in both jw.org and Watchtower ONLINE LIBRARY (WOL), then the shared link (https://www.jw.org/finder?srctype=wol&srcid=share) will always link to jw.org. On the other hand, if the content is only available in WOL, then the link will direct to WOL. It is possible to force the shared link to redirect to WOL by changing the front of the shared link into this: https://wol.jw.org/wol/finder?srctype=wol&srcid=share. — I personally think it would be extremely unlikely that WOL will be ‘merged’ into jw.org any time soon. As one example, even as recent as in the May 2023 edition of The Watchtower—Study Edition, the brothers prepared a “Research Tip” article specifically teaching us how to use WOL more effectively, entitled, “Reference Works in Watchtower ONLINE LIBRARY™.” *** w23 May p. 32 Research Tip *** Reference Works in Watchtower ONLINE LIBRARY™ https://www.jw.org/finder?wtlocale=E&docid=2023407&srctype=wol&srcid=share (WOL: https://wol.jw.org/wol/finder?wtlocale=E&docid=2023407&srctype=wol&srcid=share) I think if WOL was about to be ‘merged’ anytime soon, the timing of that article is a little bit odd. I think that WOL is here to stay for the foreseeable future.
  19. In the video, 2023 Governing Body Update #2, Brother Cook pronounced it as “win” of “wind.” i.e. /win/ not /wain/. Since the video had the direct interview with him, it’s quite safe to assume that is the correct pronounciation. https://www.jw.org/finder?wtlocale=E&docid=702023006&srcid=share
  20. I still have the original video, and the brother did speak in English and it was translated.
  21. I liked his short story “The Last Question.”
  22. That is what I have found at the time, yes, but as Brother John has stated, the issue is now seems to be fixed and thus no longer a concern.
  23. I went and tested that too after seeing your comment, and I did find out that the the JW Library indeed crashes even for Memorial dates for 2021, and 2022, too. (March 31, 2021, and April 15, 2022.) I was not able to find such crash bug for other dates, like April 16, 2022. It seems that, sometime after May 2022 and before March 2023, the brothers implemented a change to the coding as to how the daily scriptures work for JW Library. I assume Android and iOS versions of the apps were not affected, since they use different code bases.
  24. It seems the source of the bug is apparently the Examining the Scriptures—2023 installed on the program, which will display the daily scriptures on the front page. On the memorial date, the daily scripture has a multi-line header that reads: "MEMORIAL DATE, After Sundown, ..." which is not present in any other dates, as they are all single-line headers. I hypothesise this may be causing problems. Made a fresh re-install of JW Library with nothing in it and it worked okay, but the second I installed the daily scripture book, it crashed. The fact that it only crashes on the memorial date suggests that the daily scripture for the memorial is causing the crash problem.
  25. The appendix B12 of the nwtsty Bible entitled, The Final Week of Jesus’ Life on Earth, has been updated to include graphs and illustrations. It should be noted that the printed version always had this feature since its initial release in 2014. The electronic version only got this update just few weeks ago.
