  1. A moderator can just delete this thread. Sorry folks, I don't read the forum every day.
  2. Oh, sorry for double posting. I did a search for typo and Numbers and didn't see anything about it.
  3. My friend's cousin emailed her about this... on page 267, the running header should say "Numbers 32:37-33:22". Instead it says "35:37-33:22." OOPSIE!!!
  4. I looked at the page for a second. It's gambling advice, right? He discusses the Vegas point spreads and the over/unders, and gives his advice on which teams to bet on? I didn't stay on the page. The slave has told us that gambling endangers our spirituality and should be avoided. So my conscience won't let me dabble in reading gambling advice, not even just for fun.
  5. I haven't been online much lately, so I missed this. What happened??? Edit: nevermind, I googled it and found the news stories. How horrible.
  6. That's one thing I do miss. I'd love to see them somehow release the older literature and magazines in PDF format, just so we could have the illustrations and photos. Would you mind posting the picture on here? I'd love to see if I remember it.
  7. No one on the forum even needs to guess on which I prefer!
  8. That's a good idea. I'll check. I would certainly love to find out that the law forbade them to smoke on their own porch! They should smoke inside of their house. Let them breathe the foul air, not me.
  9. I just need to vent. My next door neighbors (middle aged couple) both smoke. Their favorite place to smoke is on their side porch, which is about 8 feet from the side of my house. Any time I open my windows on that side, one or both of them will inevitably come out and start smoking. They're not doing it on purpose to torment me, but it is definitely a bother to me. Also, I have a back patio... but again, it's over on that side of the house, so if I'm out there and one of them comes out for a smoke, the cloud of smoke almost inevitably drifts over to my patio. I'm not exactly on good terms with this couple. When I first moved in, they came to welcome me to the neighborhood. They said that if I needed a church, they would love to recommend theirs. Or course, I took that opportunity to witness to them... and their happy, welcoming visit ended rather abruptly. Any time I've tried having friendly "neighborly" conversations with them, they are very short and abrupt with me. I haven't even tried witnessing to them again because of the clear indication I got that they must not like Witnesses. I've tried doing things to subtly give them the hint that I don't want their smell coming onto my property. Nowadays when I open my window on that side of the house, I put in a window fan and have it blowing out, directly toward their porch. This does help keep the smoke from coming into my house, but so far I haven't thought of a way to keep the smoke away from my patio. Several times, I have almost gone over and just asked them to find another place to smoke, but I'm pretty sure that it wouldn't go well, given the cold reception I get when I even try talking to them about "friendly" things, like gardening, the weather, the neighborhood, etc. Plus... there isn't anywhere else on their house where they can sit in the shade, just that porch. Anyone else have to deal with smelly, smoky neighbors?
  10. A few businesses near me use Foursquare to offer incentives to loyal customers. There is one burger place that gives the Foursquare mayor $3 off of dinner. I managed to get mayorship there for almost a month. Other places offer smaller incentives for just having x number of check-ins.
  11. Wow, what a horrible story. Certainly not the kind of thing you want to remember about Pioneer School!
  12. I was reading an article about Rodney King, who just passed away. Does anyone know if he was ever baptized? Here is the paragraph: Here is a link to the whole article: http://www.ecollegetimes.com/student-life/rodney-king-was-haunted-by-memories-daunted-by-pain-1.2744696#.T9-er5FSRcg
  13. While I understand our emotional reaction to seeing Jehovah's name being dragged through the dirt, let's not forget that there was a 9-year-old girl here who suffered the unthinkable, life-altering trauma of being sexually abused. She is now 26, and she is living with the scars of that abuse. I know a lot about her scars. Neither money nor legal victories will heal them; only Jehovah's kingdom can do that. This story is a tragedy all the way around. There is no questioning that fact. But in our haste to point out the excessive and misplaced punishment, please don't forget that this woman is a victim. She has every right to demand justice from the person who did this. I just wish it had remained in that context: HE did this, NOT the brothers.
  14. Ah, ok, so it's the story that aired last year. I was hoping it was a new story with new numbers that could serve as another nice little notch in our belt! Even still, this story was a great witness.
  15. Actually, it makes sense that the magazine was there. I saw in the article that the picture shows evidence seized during a raid of a member of the Familia Michoacana Cartel. Familia Michoacana was founded by Nazario Moreno Gonzales, who is now dead, but who was one of the most feared drug lords in Mexico. Gonzales was raised Catholic, but then he became one of Jehovah's Witnesses. At some point, he obviously stopped serving Jehovah and started dealing drugs, and he ended up becoming a ruthless, very dangerous cartel leader. According to an article I found on MSNBC, "He was raised a Catholic but converted to Jehovah's Witnesses. He requires each of his gangsters to carry his own Bible, which is compulsory reading. He invokes principles of divine justice when setting out to defeat his enemies and is a fan of the "Godfather" trilogy and the film "Braveheart." And on Wikipedia, it says that he "required his men to carry a "spiritual manual" that he wrote himself and contains pseudo-Christian aphorisms for self improvement." So apparently, Gonzales required members of Familia Michoacana to read different kinds of spiritiual material... and, judging by this picture, perhaps he required that some of them read Watchtowers. More about Gonzales, who died in a major gun battle with Mexican Feds in 2010: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nazario_Moreno_Gonz%C3%A1lez http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/41854533/ns/world_news-americas/t/cartel-bosses-behind-mexicos-violent-drug-wars/#.T9YizJjpVNI
