  1. Long-time wet shaver here. I went bask to the old double-edge razor blades, safety razor, and shaving soap or cream that I whip up with a brush. It can be a LOT cheaper than the 5-blade joke razors now being sold and is more environmentally friendly. It can also be a lot gentler on the skin.
  2. My wife and I have been low carb for several years. I've lost about 100 pounds and reversed pre-diabetes. A doctor actually recommended Atkins but warned me, "when you do low carb, do NOT try to also do low fat." My wife has lost about 60 pounds. She now has blood sugar in the normal range after being diagnosed with Type 2 diabetes and being told it's an progressive disease and that she eventually would have to take insulin. I do IF - generally 18:6 and have done a few longer term fasts, but nothing regular. Our 30-year-old daughter also has done keto and IF for the past 3 or 4 years. She is a runner and gets stricter with it as she prepares for half-marathons. One thing you learn early on -- since folks in this WOE tend to do a lot of reading and research -- is how fundamentally corrupt Satan's system is. We are lied to at almost every turn about what's healthy and what's not. Even science can't be trusted without checking methods and funding sources.
  3. I tried watching this "documentary" and made it about 15 minutes in. I hope no one is taking it seriously. I found many of the claims laughable (fat causes diabetes?) Reading serious reviews just confirmed how I feel. It's basically PETA propaganda. Here's one review: https://www.dietdoctor.com/vegan-dietitian-reviews-health
  4. Thank you for the link. I didn't believe it was real but I've seen the story on a couple of sites. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  5. http://www.telesurtv.net/english/news/Jehovahs-Witnesses-Destroy-Ancient-Indigenous-Temple-in-Mexico-20160628-0009.html Is this for real? I can't really believe the organization has actually "fessed up" to vandalizing an ancient temple/heritage site. Seems like something someone would have done and claimed they were Witnesses in order to give us some bad press. Sorry if this has been covered -- I did a quick search to see if there's already been discussion of this here and didn't find anything -- but I'm kind of in a hurry right now, so don't have time to search more.
  6. A good ol' Americano is usually the way to go for me, from a one of our local coffee shops,or even Starbucks if I have to. Sometimes with a little sugar free hazelnut syrup. Lately I've been beating the heat with a tall iced toddy/cold brewed coffee. Anyone ever tried Trader Joe's varieties? The Sumatra isn't bad.
  7. On a low-carb diet, you find out how easily we can get along without refined flours and sugar (which is the point). My wife makes these and we're usually eating them for a few days. Low Carb Muffins 1 cup flax seed meal 1 cup almond flour (another godsend for low-carbing) 1 tablespoon baking powder 1/4 teaspoon salt 2 teaspoons cinnamon 1 cup Splenda 1/2 cup butter (melted) 4 eggs (beaten) 1/2 cup water Mix and pour into muffin (cupcake-sized) pan, bake for 20 minutes at 375 degrees. Makes 12 muffins. They're great! They come out to around 3 carbs per muffin. The wife adds a little vanilla sometimes and some bittersweet chocolate chips when we really want to splurge. You could use another, natural sweatner like stevia, xylitol or erythritol, but we've never had aproblem with sucralose (Splenda).
  8. DE shaver checking in -- I slather on the l;ather with a horsehair brush and shave with a 1946 Gillette Superspeed fitted with the sharpest blades the internet has to offer (currently Iridiums, made in Russia).
  9. I will have to get those to you a little later tonight, lol.
  10. Just discovered this thread and here's my enthusiastic "Go Low Carb!" The wife and I have been on it for a while now - she lost 60 pounds and I lost 50. Until the boredom set in and we started adding french fries and pizza crust here and there and reached the dreaded plateau. My doctor recently told me to get back on it for real, though, and so I have. He said it's the only diet he's seen actually reverse diabetes. Along with that, he described refined sugar and flour as on a par with the most abused, most addictive drugs out there. Lloyd - my wife does wonders with almond flour and flax seed meal! Muffins and even pound cake you can't tell have no flour in them.
  11. According to brothers at a Kingdom Hall build I attended last weekend, RBC is becoming LDC (Local Design & construction).
  12. An Oklahoma TV station managed to "edit out" mention of evolution from the first episode -- cutting about 15 seconds near the end: Oklahoma Fox station removes evolution from ‘Cosmos’
  13. New publications added to the JW Library app. Check it out. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
