2023 Governing Body Update #1

I'm going to join you with the happy tears! Sooooo thankful to Jehovah... Can't even begin to describe how much this means to me... Currently because of my circumstances, I couldn't even auxiliary pioneer with 30, not even thinking about regular... I am soo looking forward to memorial season! -
@GeordieGirl However much this feature is useful, its one of the things in the app that I highly dislike. It goes ahead and tries to open all sorts of links and programs.. The problem is that sometime when you opened a link, you chose it to open with JW Library and selected the "always" option. What you should do is go to JW Library app settings, and look for "defaults". There you should try to find a way to remove this app from opening the "supported web addresses" by default. What I have as an option on my S21 is an dropdown menu when to open supported links with the available options 1. In this app 2. Always ask 3. In other app. What you should have chosen is "Always ask". In other words, the app supports opening links from the jw.org domain. You should be able to choose whether you want to allow it to open those links or not. It might be little bit different on your device, but you should try to find something along those lines mentioned above.

Zoom, Skype Technical Q&A here:

To all who don't have a webcam or their camera has poor quality, and you have a spare android phone at home, you could use your phone's camera as a webcam. All you need is to install this program both on your pc and on your android phone PC Client : https://www.dev47apps.com/ Android App: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.dev47apps.droidcam Both your phone and pc need to be on the same network, and you will be able to stream the camera back to your pc, which you can then use as a camera input for skype or zoom. -
Jordan Peterson - 12 Rules for Life
And_Ray replied to ChocoBro's topic in Secular Books & Literature
Sorry i didn't come across this topic earlier... it somehow passed through without me noticing.. I totally agree with the quote in bold. I found this book recently when i visited a brother... I have seen many of Jordan Peterson's videos on Youtube and i can say i like the guy... so when i came across the book i thought it would be a real gem that i would regret not finding sooner... i skimmed through the whole book and then read a chapter that captured my attention... Oh my.... he talked about everything BUT the point of the chapter... it was the chapter that talked about patting a cat... The point can really be summed in 1-2 pages max... and he talks on the subject for 10 pages... (or more, i cant really remember), and he just keeps bouncing back and forth between many different ideas and subjects... Then i came to the conclusion that I'd better stick to his videos and discard the book. Here's a youtube video that gives a nice overview of the book https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PFo9-7VX2K8 And on a side note, to those who say that we shouldn't read secular literature to get great advice about life, i most definitely don't agree. The Bible is the ultimate source of right and wrong, but on the same time all it gives is principles. It seldom offers practical ways to implement those principles in someones lives. For example, there're the principles of forgiveness, that we should commend others, that we should be good listeners, compassionate with other etc. And how do you put those into practice? We need bunch of watchtowers, emphasizing over and over and OVER again how to act on those principles. A prime example is the book "How to Win Friends and Influence People" by Dale Carnegie. If you keep in mind the Bible principles, and then just use those books to find practical ways to apply those principles, I'd say that's the perfect combinations. Oftentimes, the writers themselves use Bible verses to back up a certain claim. So, in any way, caution must be exercised when reading those books because they always contain some ideas that contradict the Bible... -
Melbourne Convention 2019

Lovely two days so far... In addition to what has already been said, here's a link to a video showing the atmosphere when the candidates were leaving for baptism. https://photos.app.goo.gl/y6ZjQEvYYrjajb5VA -
One illustration i heard was about the headship principle compared to sewing. The husband was compared to a needle and the wife as a thread. It's not that one is better over the other. The needle MUST go first, but it won't do anything useful if there's no thread. So the thread must come behind but both are required to sew something.

Do You Use a VPN for Internet?
And_Ray replied to Beggar for the Spirit's topic in Computers, Tablets, Mobile Devices, & Apps
1) The VPN's listed on that link, are ones whom i've never ever heard of before, and are definitely NOT one of the most valued and best paid VPN to use these days. 2) Wrong. Thats the points of using a vpn, to encrypt the traffic from your phone to the online service you're trying to access.. They can access traffic, correct, but it's highly encrypted using best encryption standards known to date. 3) Wrong. The bests VPN's have their HQ registered in a country which law doesn't force them to give out customers data ( Panama for example) 4) No one can charge you for using a service that someone else used for illegal activity. I'm sure you use windows or linux. Hackers do too... so what? we will all get charged because we use windows too?? 5) Those companies will know when you access your account, true... but the ip address that they will log is the one from the VPN service because thats where your requests originated from.... So, bottom line, they can't track you, only that you used your account.... And just like many others said above, using a free VPN is the worst thing you could do if privacy is concerned. I don't even feel like using free vpn for any reason at all. I'd rather not be able to access something, than use free VPN... but that just my personal opinion, which is by no means not backed up by facts and experience. -
Do You Use a VPN for Internet?
And_Ray replied to Beggar for the Spirit's topic in Computers, Tablets, Mobile Devices, & Apps
Nord Vpn 3 year plan has been on my TO-BUY list for a while. It's about 110$ for three years, compared to the 12$ monthly subscription. VPN is a service that routes your internet from your computer to the outside world. It serves a hiding barrier that conceals your true identity. Using VPN has maany advantages, some of which are : 1) Your isp cannot access your traffic, therefore cannot block you from visiting certain websites. 2) You can safely use public wifi on airports or anywhere for that matter without worrying about someone stealing your login credentials or credit card info. 3) You can spoof your location so that you appear to be logged from somewhere else in the world ( depending on the location of the server your logged in ). This can let you access Geo-restricted content such as the US Netflix - anywhere in the world. In short -> with a vpn, you put a mask like a ninja before going out in public so no one knows who you are Some of the considerations would be 1) how many servers does the vpn provide? what kind of servers are available? Sometimes you would need privacy server, sometime you would need server with higher speed transfer. 2) does the VPN log the activity of its user? If they do, that defies the purpose of using a vpn since in some circumstances, they would eventually be obliged with a warrant to provide those logs to the authorities. 3) where's the VPN registered? The laws of the country apply to the whole vpn service... For example NordVPN is based in Panama, as the country has no mandatory data retention laws and does not participate in the Five Eyes or Fourteen Eyes alliances. -
Who on here programs?
And_Ray replied to Katty's topic in Computers, Tablets, Mobile Devices, & Apps
It's so interesting that everyone so far stated that you've been doing programming back in the days, and you've given up on it. I cannot imagine how was it to be a computer programmer back then... No windows OS, assembler code, few KB's of RAM, no IDE, no intellisense (code-completion), no code linters (code analyzers that spot errors).. it's no wonder that all of you gave up programming... The job industry is so much different today. Currently I work full-time as a full-stack web developer working on enterprise level web applications. It's a demanding and challenging job, but it's nowhere as it was few decades ago. Being part of the millennial generation ( i'm born some time before that, but still ), I got a jump-start to using computers. From early days i had a computer at home and i would do all sort of thing to it. Reinstalling Windows XP was among the first accomplishments Every now and then i would watch videos about programming.. i would occasionally start to read some book for C++, Visual Basic etc... i would do some calculator program and then give up. I would read different computer blogs about what-not. That way i laid the foundation that would later serve me when i would dive deep into web programming. I attended few Microsoft courses after high school instead of going to University and shortly after that i got an internship in a company, that would later offer me a job and I'm still there... -
There are pretty advanced search options on google, it's just that very few people are aware of them, even less people use them. With a quick google search about google search techniques this blog came up. https://blog.hubspot.com/marketing/google-advanced-search-tips It's quite useful. Many times i use it to search images that are on our website, because all of the images have a "hidden" text description which is picked up by google search.

Best Photo Image Viewer for Windows 10
And_Ray replied to Brother_Bliss's topic in Computers, Tablets, Mobile Devices, & Apps
I always tried to find some photo viewing program that will suit my taste... but i never found it. With win10 I cant stand the new photos program. But i really like the win7 default photo viewer. There's a way to restore it and use it on win10. Also, VLC is de facto the best app for any media playback, be it audio or video. -

And_Ray replied to Tortuga's topic in Encouragement for the Worldwide Brotherhood
They are definitely familiar with the talk, since it's the host who is making up the talk. They have the freedom to choose a topic that they like, and then the video department will make sure to find and put together material that is bases on the talk.. But yeah, the brother giving the talk is very much familiar with the talk, since its him who put it together. Sent from my WAS-LX1 using Tapatalk -

Although we want to think only the best of our brother, they are 100% using teleprompter. It's been caught on camera on few of broadcasts. I can't remember without searching first, but I think there was a video where brother Stephen Lett was explaining about the translations of the monthly broadcast, and there you can see the teleprompter on camera. I'll let you know when I find it. Sent from my WAS-LX1 using Tapatalk -
Best Antivirus for Android Tablet
And_Ray replied to amwambinga's topic in General Discussion & Everyday Chit Chat
Well... Want to know the truth? Personally I don't have an antivuris. I do use Malwarebytes on my PC tho. Do i feel that you need antivirus on a PC? Nope, you don't need it. Although It's a good measure of precaution for the average computer user. Easily attractive to viruses? NO! You don't attract viruses. You either let them in, or shut the door in their face. There are handful of ways on which you can let a virus in your computer. even less on an android device. Email attachment, phishing email, malicious websites, untrusted programs, advertisement on a website or in app etc... So as long as you don't CLICK on any unknown or phishing link, and don't install untrusted programs (e.g. exe files for PC, apk for Android), you're safe. oh and btw, you don't accidentally download and install malicious program. There are just too much steps involved to be accidental. It takes a bit of common sense and little knowledge of the ways you can get infected, and you're good to go. -
The developer of the program replied to my issue and fixed the problem. After that I was able to merge two files. I didn't really try to use it afterwards. I'll try tonight. What I found out is that you cannot merge the newly created file with another backup file. Thats what I ultimately want, since I had 4 devices at one point, and I was hoping to merge them all. I'll report that issue as well and see what's comes out of it. Sent from my WAS-LX1 using Tapatalk
