  1. The humanoid robot, called Pepper, is designed to help with tasks at Buddhist temples, such as reading Buddhist scripture during funeral ceremonies. Dressed in a Buddhist robe, the robot chanted sutras at Japan’s largest funeral and cemetery exhibition. Its creators say the robot can deliver funerals at a cheaper price than a human priest, at €389 compared to €1867. http://www.euronews.com/2017/08/23/meet-the-robot-priest-set-to-deliver-funerals-in-japan? 2. Those Japanese are real quick at fixing things, aren't they? This sinkhole appeared a week ago in downtown Fukuoka, near a busy subway. It was busily repaired and has reopened within a week. The mayor released a statement apologising for the "great trouble" the sinkhole had caused. He expressed his gratitude to workers for their efforts completing the restoration work "promptly with safety first". "From now on I will do my utmost to investigate the cause and compensate for the damage," the statement said. The cause of the collapse in the city's Hakata district had been linked to ongoing subway construction nearby. http://www.abc.net.au/news/2016-11-16/japanese-road-reopens-one-week-after-giant-sinkhole-appears/8028756 Before and after pics:
  3. I heard a KH in Oita pref. was damaged by the typhoon we just had last week. Brothers in that area cannot hold meetings at their KH. My congregational brother will go there this weekend to help them. I fee sorry to hear about that and pray for them. I know our God Jehovah always helps us and our worldwide brotherhood is strong. It makes me happy and feel secured. I don't know whether they have other damages or not. I hope the brothers and sisters there stay safe..
