A stage of the Tour of Britain cycle race started in our town last Friday. Our Cong arranged for a cart to be there. My shift was due to start when the race commenced so I arrived early to take a few photos. Here's our cart manned by our COBE and my niece. Next photo is the podium where the riders sign on. Between two Sky team riders you can see a large owl from a nearby owl sanctuary. Next photo is three riders heading towards the start line. Chris Froome far right; Wout Poels, eventual stage winner in the centre; and Tour de France winner Geraint Thomas in the rear. Hundreds of people passed our cart, though none stopped to take literature or chat during the hour I was there, but our presence was noted.

A couple of pictures from our 59th wedding anniverary. Below the cake our grandson had made for the occasion. The photo is from our wedding, with us cutting the cake. It is the only photo we have, the "professional" photographer dammaged all the other film and lost everything.

Below we are cutting the cake. Gertrude is 2 days out of the hospital.

Sorry for being so late, I composed the post but forgot to submit it. Gertrude is still in Everett waiting on her final doctors revue scheduled for Tuesday. If everything is copacetic I will be bringing her to our home in Newport on Wednesday, As they say, 'if the good lord is willin' and the creek don't rise.'

59 years! Well done. I hope you don't mind me saying, it's an example to us all to see living proof of 'true love' today.

On my app, the cake picture appeared on the post with the bike riders. I was confused (a common occurrence for me). I was thinking the winner got a cake? And I thought they get yellow roses - or was that a yellow jacket? And the name didn't match...

But it makes sense now.

One of the many cruise ships that come into our local port. This Disney Ship is extraordinarily huge, I didn't know our shipping lanes were so deep.

Then I looked in the back field and saw what looked like a dead bird, awwww so sad.

Oh for goodness sake, it just the local bear making his presence known. Looks like he's hitting the cranberry bogs too.

Venice (took this 2 weeks ago processed today) in HDR ( High Dynamic Range. The practice essentially involves taking the same image a number of times at various exposures so that, when blended together, your image contains more detail in the shadows and highlights / you can see more! ) Some of the best photographs out there present life in a way that our eyes simply cannot see. Think about the current trend for drone photography – of course drone imagery is immediately more interesting to look at because we can’t fly . HDR is similar. It presents the world in a vibrance and texture that usually we wouldn’t experience and that’s appealing.

That's quite spectacular, Greg!  (Welcome back, btw).  I never saw such depth of colour when I was there.  Are you on the Rialto bridge?

Lucy ...the picture is processed in HDR (read description) there is no way to achieve these colors naturally straight from the camera.

No, the bridge it's one called Ponte Accademia

To me, it looks like a painting. Is it a real photograph? (or a photograph of a painting?)

It’s a photograph blended together with various exposures

The technique is called HDR.  (It’s not a photo of a painting)

Hhmmm. Okay. But actually, if HDR comes out looking like a painting, I think I'd rather stick with my own camera. (personal preference) This doesn't look like a painting...
