a song that reminds you of the truth?

Recommended Posts

One of my favorite songs as a teen was a very obscure song by The Smashing Pumpkins called The Beginning is the End is the Beginning.

It's lyrics sung poetic about a time very similar to the last days. It has multiple perspectives for me, one of someone in the world, one of some of Jehovah's people, and one of a world leader on it's last leg. The song is quite different (but so was I as a teen ), but it remains one of my favorites to this very day.

Jehovah's people's current perspective:

"Send a heartbeat to
The void that cries through you
Relive the pictures that have come to pass (JW History)
For now we stand alone
The world is lost and blown
And we are flesh and blood disintegrate
With no more to hate"

Worldly people's perspective, and latter ours again: (Chorus)

"Is it bright where you are?
Have the people changed?
Does it make you happy you're so strange?

And in your darkest hour
I hold secrets flame
We can watch the world devoured in its pain

World leader's final perspective:

"Delivered from the blast
The last of a line of lasts
The pale princess of a palace cracked
And now the kingdom comes
Crashing down undone
And I am a master of a nothing place
Of recoil and grace"

Our final perspective (on Jehovah's day)

"Time has stopped before us
The sky cannot ignore us
No one can separate us
For we are all that is left
The echo bounces off me
The shadow lost beside me
There's no more need to pretend
Cause now we can begin again"

This song reminds me of "putting on the new personality" and Col 5:3, Mark 9:43 and related scriptures. Especially Daryl's adlibs at the end, "Temptation makes a fool out of us all... Got to give it up, throw it away". This song wasn't written by them (ironically it was written by the same people who wrote What's Love Got to Do With It by Tina Turner) and has been performed by other artists but this version is my favorite from one of my favorite bands.

Lyrics:

There's no decision

You look my way

I know that expression and what it says

It would be so easy

The light is right

Forget in the moment who we are tonight

My body's singing and the music's strong

No conscience speaking, ain't nothing wrong

Give it up

That's the way it starts

You've got to know old habits die hard

Give it up

Remember what I said

That kind of lovin' used to happen every day

Temptation makes a fool out of us all

I made my mind up

It had to end

But I've got this indecision when you're close again

I want you so bad baby

I can't deny

And those old fantasies are stealing across my mind

I thought by now that the flame had gone

I realize that it's still burning on

<chorus>

I always like to point out the lyrics in a song by “Guess Who”....that’s the name of a Canadian rock band mostly big in the seventies.

The song is “ she’s come undone”. in one of the verses one of the reasons she’s come undone is that there are “too many Churches and not enough truth”.

"If you're not part of the solution, you're part of the problem." (tu)
