Visitors next month to Times Square in New York or Leicester Square in London are in for a culture shock – a life-size reproduction of the Temple of Baal.

Needless to say, the exhibition of a symbol of paganism, child sacrifice and ritual prostitution – well-known to readers of the Bible – has raised concerns.

"Ritualistic Baal worship, in sum, looked a little like this: Adults would gather around the altar of Baal. Infants would then be burned alive as a sacrificial offering to the deity. Amid horrific screams and the stench of charred human flesh, congregants – men and women alike – would engage in bisexual orgies. The ritual of convenience was intended to produce economic prosperity by prompting Baal to bring rain for the fertility of “mother earth.”

“The natural consequences of such behavior – pregnancy and childbirth – and the associated financial burdens of “unplanned parenthood” were easily offset. One could either choose to engage in homosexual conduct or – with child sacrifice available on demand – could simply take part in another fertility ceremony to ‘terminate’ the unwanted child.”

Geoffrey Grider, writing in “Now the End Begins,” said bringing the Temple of Baal to New York City was quite fitting.

“In 2016, we have become a nation that does not want God, does not want His Book, and most importantly has locked His Son Jesus Christ outside the doors of the professing Christian church. We have become greedy, selfie-centered, powerless wanderers, not realizing that the judgement of God has already fallen down upon us".

This is probably in response to the historical temple of bel (Baal) being destroyed in Syria by Isis in August of last year.

It has been in the news today how Syrias history has been attacked and destroyed by the militants.

Here's my question, is it actually going to be a 5 foot arch erected? or is it going to be a laser artist's rendition?  Either way it's disgusting but wow the effort going into this is bewildering (and I never use that word)

They (large life size replicas) are being erected in Times Square NY , Tragalfur Sq in London and others reportedly up to 100 other places around the world on April 19th, it's meant to be a project of Harvard University and UNESCO honouring historic events???? I want to be careful here of entering into conspiracy theories etc., but this at the very least shows how opposed they are to Jehovah. I'm shaking my head  - wondering what is coming next it's almost like they are giving Jehovah direct obsence gestures in defiance.

The only thing WE can do is make sure our stand is firmly on Jehovah's side. WOW just WOW! I honestly feel like crying.

"Honoring Historical Events"?

What's next ... a recreation of the bombing of Hiroshima - complete with exploding  nuclear devices?

This is supposed to be a political slap in the face to ISIS for destroying heritage sites.  The Institute of Digital Archaeology, in collaboration with Oxford, Harvard and the Museum of the Future are recreating the former temple using digital media.

“It is really a political statement, a call to action, to draw attention to what is happening in Syria and Iraq and now Libya,” said Roger Michel, executive director of the IDA. “We are saying to them if you destroy something we can rebuild it again. The symbolic value of these sites is enormous, we are restoring dignity to people.”   http://www.notey.com/@threedprint_unofficial/external/7294503/3d-printed-replicas-of-isis-destroyed-temple-to-be-constructed-in-new-york-city-and-london.html

While we know the true meaning of what these temples represent, it would not be obvious to others who appreciate ancient civilisations' architecture and are interested in preservation.  I for one have enjoyed seeing these past wonders, from stonehenge to the ruins in Ephesus.  As Shawn said, what is different to the Greek and Egyptian temples, or Roman or Ancient Mayan or Asian temples?

It's just another distraction for the world to look to their own means of providing peace and security - through recreating their past cultures despite their "enemy", ISIS terrorising the world.  They think they are reclaiming something back.  So, does it really matter what they are recreating digitally?  It all is a smoke screen to the real solution to ISIS and all world problems - Jehovah's kingdom.

1 hour ago, Shawnster said:

Would everyone be this upset if they were erecting Egyptian or Greek temples?

I think for me - it's the child sacrifice aspect of it - but there is still something bothering me about this .  I know what it is ... the fact that Jehovah decreed that Babylon would never be rebuilt (even if this is just a small part)  ... if they had chosen a Greek temple then it doesn't have the depth of opposing Jehovah and I know the political meaning behind it - but it's driven by Satan, who is  fully aware of how Jehovah feels about Baal in particular afterall it was alliances with this god and his false worship that turned his people away in the wildnerness.

The politicians and the people in general (although a lot are also aware of Baal) are not interested in how it ties with scripture at all, Satan is though.  He is manipulating it all.

Yes it's a distraction, but it is also an indication how debased this world is.

This is just another case of a small unimportant fact misrepresented and immensely exaggerated by Fundamentalist journalists to agitate the public and promote their religious agenda. No operating Baal temples are going to be rebuilt in Western cities and no children will be sacrificed in them, nor will any Baal-worship be promoted. Please, let's use some critical judgment when reading the news and don't fall for the propaganda of religious fanatics.

UNESCO keeps a list of World Heritage sites, that is, unique places and buildings that due to their outstanding historical or cultural importance deserve being preserved for future generations. Among them there are the Egyptian pyramids, Machu Picchu in Peru,  the Great Barrier Reef in Australia, the Roman Colosseum, the Red Square in Moscow, the Great Chinese Wall and so on. Among the activities held by UNESCO there is the World Heritage Week that is held in different cities annually. During this week, replicas of some of those ancient monuments are shown and explained to visitors.

The monument chosen to be exhibited this year during the World Heritage Week in London and New York is the entrance arch to Baal's temple in Palmyra (not even the whole temple, that was destroyed centuries ago, just the entrance arch). This monument was chosen because it was the best known structure in the ruins of ancient Palmyra, visited by millions of tourists every year until it was destroyed by the ISIS terrorists last year. So a real-scale replica of that arch will be exhibited during one week and visitors will learn about the culture and history of ancient Palmyra. It sounds like a really interesting exhibition for lovers of history as well as for students of Bible prophecies, since Palmyra was for some time the King of the North in Daniel's prophecy.

Did you notice how different this news is when explained objectively? Once again conspiracy theorists at their best. While the original article tries to make you believe that Baal temples are going to be rebuilt in all of the western world for people to worship there, the simple truth is that it's just a one week exhibition of an ancient temple wall to teach ancient history. The reasons for this exhibition are not religious at all. They are not challenging Jehovah nor trying to promote ancient cults any more than if they had shown a replica of the Acropolis, the Egyptian pyramids or the Alhambra in Granada.

EDIT: Just Google for the author Geoffrey Grider and see the kind of articles he publishes in his magazine "Now the End Begins" from where that article was taken. The ugly lies he writes about Jehovah's Witnesses give a clear idea of his credibility.
