Hot week in Queensland (NE Australia)

Not normal to have fires here in the tropics, as 'rain forest' is normally, well rainy. But a dry year has turned it all tinder dry.

As mentioned earlier, we do not normally get to 40C (104F), we get mid to high 30's (95 F), but with humidity which keeps things green, albeit steamy.

The further north you push, also the sparser the population si no mass casualties. Extensive farm crops lost (houses saved so far). One chap said he lost 130 acres of crops (lotsa sugar round here).

5 more hot days to go before rain forecast, so got our Go-bag and goodies packed, should we need to leave. Hoping no fires, but only takes one spark, cig butt or fire-bug to turn our situation from serious to critical.

Have been trapped in for 48 hours due to 70 mile an hour gusts.  Much better now just foggy and rainy so I might put my bikini on

@TonyWenz  That looks very bad!  I know what you mean, Queensland is not dry in the tropics.  Hoping those brothers affected by the fires are safe and ready to go.  Apparently the dismal weather in NSW has caused the bushfire situation in Qld to be even worse than it should be, driving up the unpredictable ferocious winds, and flaming the fires.

So many”unprecedented” weather events going on no where seems immune! We got through the NSW wet ok down here. Stay safe everyone.

Heat wave still in Qld. Expecting 45C (113F) in many locations. 5 days of over 100 fires burning. The good/bad news is a Cyclone (Hurricane) is brewing (TC Owen).

This may put out the fires, but at what cost...

Here in NYC it's 41°, rain tonight. 

So actually that's not too bad considering it's December. But I shudder to think what the rest of December will bring. 🌨️

Lol. I remember one year when we were in the low 20s, I called my father down in Georgia, and asked him "what's the weather down there like daddy"?

He said "oh it's cold down here baby." So I asked "what's the temperature"?

And I couldn't believe my ears! Lol. 

He said "about 40°. 

I said "daddy do you know what I'll do for 40° degrees right about now"? Lol.

Yep, I think temperatures and how we feel is mostly objective. What I'm saying is yes, a certain temperature is real, but our reaction to it is mostly objective. Just my opinion.

Blizzard conditions here, in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan, USA.

 

Looks like I'll be using the phone tie-in,

cuz I ain't driving 60 miles in whiteout conditions.

Not a drop of snow at all here. But it’s raining cats and dogs.

 

Its 34*.  

 

Yesterday weather bug said freezing drizzle for today, now it says 100% chance of snow....no rain in the forecast. False weather prophets. 🙂

 

I’m skeptical about that temperature. We’ll see about 9:30 🕤 where it is.

The temps here were near freezing for a couple of days during the week - now it is back up in the 70's F (21-25 ) and has been raining all weekend, including some thunderstorms - rain and T'Storms are expected through Monday.

It's snowing side-ways here.  Lots of accidents being reported on the scanner.

Even the plow trucks were getting stuck.   

I think it's more because of icy roads, than snowy roads, though.

Yep, after the meeting we had O about 2 inches in the parking lot. Course that’s a little higher in elevation than down in the town of Munising where I live. 

 

Its just a snow shower at the moment. Lots of slush. Ugh! 

 

I see the runway at the airport at Sawyer (over 40 miles away) has been closed. (alert on scanner).

 

i was so glad to put my truck in 4 wheel once I got on top of the hill.

Just had heavy rain go thru bringing in a cold front. Got up up 13.6 C ( 56 F ) today.

Back down below normal again with white rain in the forecast again.

Below freezing starting Monday night and staying there all week.

Perth, on the other hand, is parched. A sunny week with highs reaching into the low thirties on many days and peaking at 38C on Friday.
