Chocolat, and the Moral of the Story.

I recently watched a movie called 'Chocolat' and I liked it. For those of you who haven't seen it, it's about a woman who moves into a small town, with a very strict position on religion. This has little effect on the woman, except that she opens a chocolate shop, just in time for Lent, when the town is under orders to abstain from all forms of enjoyment for the duration.

 

Nevertheless, she manages to win over a number of despondent, desperate people; driving the more fanatical devotees to distraction.

 

I won't say more, because I hate spoilers. But there was a moment at the end that really resonated with me as a JW.

How many of us were drawn to the Truth from other faith's, because they failed to make that connection?

One of my favourites too ... but I find many don't want to watch it ... i think its on Netflix if anyone wants to see it.

Do you mean we got the truth despite ourselves?

 

If my mum hadn't wanted to search for the truth, against her strict religious family's wishes, I doubt I would have bothered. Her faith (though I too added to her persecution at first) always is an inspiration to me.

Sounds very similar to the latest broadcasting ... but yes ... Chocolat  does highlight the inadequacies of a belief system that is based on reverence of men rather than scripture.

A LOT of fundamentalist "Christians" and Muslim extremists are among that number...
