Geminids Meteor Shower

Recommended Posts

It's going to be a great year in WA to see the Geminids Meteor Shower and the weather hopefully will stay clear.  Our congregation has organised to go out to the country side and leave the city lights to have the perfect view next Friday night.  Oh, so excited!!!

The Geminids are considered to be one of the most spectacular meteor showers of the year, with the possibility of sighting around 120 meteors per hour at its peak, which is on December 13 or 14, depending on your time zone.

Anyone else staying up to view them?

What fun!!!  Hope you will have clear skies for your viewing pleasure.

Air mattresses, so you can lie down to vie the meteors, will save you from some bad kinks in your necks.

I like to spread a sleeping bag over the air mattress to keep from being chilled, too.

It is unlikely that we will have clear skies here but, if we do, I will be watching.Stargazing.gif.b4a0f8bdf5908f482b14a9bfd936bd96.gif

Geminid Meteor Shower 2018: Know When, Where and How to Watch The Celestial Spectacle in India

Best Place and Time to Watch Geminid Shower in India

Geminid Meteor Showers are observed best from the Northern Hemisphere and thus Indians have a good view of the celestial spectacle. But a prerequisite to watching the Geminids is heading to a less polluted place. Head to the higher altitudes, away from the cities to watch the meteor shower. The best time to watch the Geminids is said to be around 2.00 pm. You can head to Alwar in Rajasthan, the northern states of Himalayas, rural areas like Bandardara in Maharashtra etc to watch the Geminid Shower in India.

I have no pictures, unfortunately, but the 2 1/2 hr drive out to the WA Wheatbelt to sit upon a huge granite outcrop gazing at the meteors shooting passed was nothing short of spectacular!  Heaps of brothers and sisters were there, some choosing to camp overnight, made for a great night of stargazing.  Best life ever, and a gorgeous glimpse into a future we all hold dear.

The heavens are declaring the glory of God;

The skies above proclaim the work of his hands.

Day after day their speech bubbles forth,

And night after night they reveal knowledge.

There is no speech, and there are no words;

Their voice is not heard.

Ps 19:1-3
