I missed that one. Thanks for posting @hatcheckgirl .

We don't get any news like this in the UK these days. Far too involved in politics.

Actually one of my main sources of missed news items is JWT

Thanks everyone who posts news items

This is really sad, as you hear of the stories of those who survived.  Death toll has hit 168. :(

https://www.sbs.com.au/news/death-toll-hits-168-after-volcano-triggered-tsunami-in-indonesia

A dramatic video posted on social media showed the Jakarta pop band Seventeen performing at a tent at a beach in Tanjung Lesung when a wave collapses the stage from behind. People scream and run.

The band released a statement saying their bass player and road manager were found dead, while four other members of their group remained missing.

The group's lead vocalist, Riefian "Ifan" Fajarsyah, has been the only survivor found so far.

He posted a video to Instagram looking shell-shocked and asking for prayers.

I can't believe how many news agencies have got the volcano's name wrong.

Even the VOLCANO News site has it wrong. They are reporting it was KrakatOA, too:  right under Latest update, they call KrakatAU KrakatOA.

Undersea landslides triggered by an eruption of the Mount Anak Krakatau volcano caused the tsunami, the country's climatology agency BMKG said.

Even Google Earth got it wrong.

It is very confusing because only the last two letters are different.  KrakatOA blew itself to smithereens and they call the volcano that took it's place KrakatAU, the son of Krakatoa.

Either way, it spelled DISASTER for all those who were injured or killed.:(

The Smithsonian Institution's Global Volcanism Program cites the Indonesian name, Krakatau, as the correct name, but says that Krakatoa is often employed.[6][9][10] While Krakatoa is more common in the English-speaking world, the Indonesian Krakatau tends to be favored by others, including geologists.

Don't give up .. it's just around the corner.

It is probably because Krakatoa is so famous, the name sticks in their heads.

But, back in 1883, Krakatoa blew itself to bits and no longer exists.

A new volcano began to form in the same area so people called it Anak Krakatau, or Son of Krakatoa.

Krakatoa may be more common in the English speaking world, but it is still the wrong name for the volcano that is currently makings news.

We might be in for a Volcanic Winter

The 1883 eruption of Krakatoa (Krakatau) in the Dutch East Indies (now Indonesia) began in the afternoon of Sunday, 26 August 1883 (with origins as early as May of that year), and peaked in the late morning of Monday, 27 August when over 70% of the island and its surrounding archipelago were destroyed as it collapsed into a caldera. Additional seismic activity was reported to have continued until February 1884, though reports of seismic activity after October 1883 were later dismissed by Rogier Verbeek's investigation into the eruption. The 1883 eruption was one of the deadliest and most destructive volcanic events in recorded history. At least 36,417 deaths are attributed to the eruption and the tsunamis it created. Significant additional effects were also felt around the world in the days and weeks after the volcano's eruption.

INDONESIA THREAT
There are fears another killer wave could hit Indonesia.
The volcano that caused that devastating Tsunami is still spewing lava and ash.
