  5. Thanks, Sandra. That is an interesting article. Recently I read a book titled "Death Came on Mondays" that tells the autobiography of a young brother who was sentenced to death in Nazi Germany. In the appendix of that book, a historian explains in detail that same point: that constientious objection was included in the German Constitution after much debate due to the stand of our brothers and sisters in the Nazi camps. Some political activists who were in prison with them were very impressed by their refusal to serve in the army or build weapons. When the war ended and some of those politicians participated in composing the new Constitution, they insisted that the right of all people (not just Jehovah's Witnesses) to constientious objection were recognized.

  6. Brothers and sisters, please do not take this as an offense, but I just want to say that punctuations (i.e., commas, capitalizations, full-stops, parentheses, etc.) are a great aid when one is trying to express a thought in his or her post. It helps to convey your thought with clarity to others for better comprehension. By the way, excuse me for any errors on my part.

It's unclear how long the symptoms will last or if the brain damage will be permanent, but some experts worry they could lead to another epidemic. Survivors and patients have described how the virus's seeming effect on their brains is affecting their daily lives, from hallucinating to forgetting simple words.

  9. In Florida - "It is legal to kill a nuisance raccoon if you hold a valid hunting license when it is done by a humane method." Shooting is considered to be a humane method and, if you are the owner of the property you live on, you do not need a license on your own property. Additionally, once you turn 65, you no longer need a hunting or fishing license in Florida even if you are not on your own land. When we had them killing our chickens, we "relocated them" a few feet below the surface of the ground. We have not had a problem with them for quite a number of years.

Most every other Church is acting like God is only 'on call' where the collection plate is. Meanwhile over here, we're getting an entire regional convention direct from the top tier of the JW's, free of charge, on our website; in a hundred different languages.

  12. Today too, making a bad decision would be the result of trusting in false or fake news. This is dangerous. In this time of the pandemic, this can have an effect on our health and our life. Reacting to other propaganda can create financial losses or can result in other negative consequences. But there is even more at stake. Lies destroy trust. They create doubts and they can undermine our life-saving determination to follow Jehovah's direction. For example, we are determined to respect governments and their laws in harmony with Romans 13. Now the news often presents politics, politicians, state institutions in a bad light. Sometimes we are confronted with outright lies, with cunning reasoning or easy solutions with empty promises. Please, let's be on the watch. This can weaken our determination to be faithful to Jehovah by obeying the superior authorities and displaying Christian neutrality. Taken from transcript of latest video Do Not Lie @4:30 mark. Consistently, the FDS has urged us to use extreme caution, to follow the directives from the secular authorities as to our health during this pandemic. They have taken it seriously, having been in hard lockdown since the beginning. We are wise to keep very aware of agendas that present government directions in a bad light - Lies destroy trust (in authority) and that goes against direction from the Bible at Romans 13. In the majority of cases we follow the govt direction, and if that government direction goes against what Jehovah directs, then we don’t. We have to watch we don’t weaken our Christian neutrality, in this instance, by deciding we aren’t in agreement with specific government pandemic guidelines.

  13. How are our brothers handling following the Swedish government's more relaxed directions (compared to other governments around the world)? In view of following Rom 13, it seems to conflict on how the FDS are dealing with this, putting all Bethels in lockdown for their protection. Also interesting is the point in the latest video on Do not Lie at 4:30 talking about not believing the conflicting views of fake news sites that encourage us to mistrust the government's directions at this time of the Pandemic, because lies destroy trust (in authority). https://www.jw.org/finder?srcid=share&prefer=content&applanguage=E&locale=en&item=pub-jwb_202007_10_VIDEO&docid=1011214 How is this being addressed and handled by our brothers in Sweden?

  17. Ok. It is 1330 (1:30 pm) in Central Louisiana, USA. I just finished with Zoom service myself. We did letter writing and phone witnessing. We started with a small group this morning.....12 to be exact. Usually we have 18 to 20. Many listening ahead of time for the RC and taking notes. Each service group will discuss the RC next Thursday. Also preparing for WT for Sunday. BWT, what a great study! The weather is hot, about 95-97 today w/a heat index of 104 - 107. We are not used to this hot weather and it hasn't even started yet! Our hot weather is usually in August so I cannot imagine what next month will be like. My congregation is loving Zoom. I understand everyone in our cong is attending the meetings, Zoom or KHC, or regular phone hookup, sick or not. What an encouragement to all of us. So, right now I am having a cool drink and then will catch up on mail, bills, and caring for my dogs and cats. Thanks for asking. And, what are you others doing?

  27. The New York Times has commented on Swedish corona action. President Donald Trump has also commented on the situation in the country. When the coronavirus actually began to spread in Europe in the spring of 2020, Sweden's response to the situation was exceptional not only on a European scale but also on a global scale. The country's government imposed almost no restrictions on everyday life for its citizens, unlike in other Nordic countries, for example. "That's how it happened: thousands more people have died than in neighboring countries that have imposed closures, but the Swedish economy has done a little better," writes The New York Times. The title of the story is “Sweden has become a warning example to the world”. “They achieved literally nothing,” commented Jacob F. Kirkegaard, an international economist. - It is a self-inflicted wound and they have no financial benefits. Relatively more deaths than in the US The magazine compares the Swedish coronation rate with that of the United States. Proportionally, Sweden has 40 percent more people dying from the virus than the United States, where there have been 129,000 deaths to date. Correspondingly, compared to Finland, there are seven times more deaths in Sweden. According to the WHO, 5,420 people have died of the disease in Sweden. The economic outlook in Sweden is no better than elsewhere. The Swedish central bank expects the country's economy to shrink by 4.5 per cent this year. Unemployment rose to 9 percent in May. By comparison, in Denmark the central bank forecasts an economic downturn of 4.1% this year. The unemployment rate in May was 5.6. In Denmark, only one-sixth of what in Sweden has died from coronavirus disease in relation to population. A slight deflection in front of the corona is also noticeable in Sweden. The popular television summer program, Allsång på Skanssen, which will also be shown in Finland on Tuesdays, will be shown on empty bench rows this summer.

  31. It is actually coronavirus. The authorities in those countries, including Russia, are hiding the true covid figures for political reasons. In some cases, it is the poor quality of tests that is preventing proper diagnosis. The country I live in has had close to 400 pneumonia deaths since March vs about 130 covid deaths. For comparison, about 350 died from pneumonia in entire 2019. Turkmenistan has not had a single case of covid yet, but we hear of mass graves for those who have died of pneumonia already.

Nice looking ride. Those wheels fit perfectly - good choice. I prefer the look of the 4-door over the 2-door ... but, that's me. Looking under that hood took me back a bit. I drove several GM products and always liked the "peek-a-boo" distributor - so much easier than what Ford and Chrysler had. Really liked being able to adjust the points while the car was running instead of the "set-start-dwell-shut off and repeat" several times till you either got it right or got tired of playing with it. "Also later replaced the vacuum advance. The car runs extremely great now." Have you checked the automatic choke to make sure the spring is still good?

  37. It’s really not an unprecedented situation in and of itself. We had the Spanish Flu, and it was worse than this. People are only saying that because they’ve never lived through something like this before, but I’m sure they said the same thing back then. The issue is a lot of these governments aren’t doing the right thing by their people, handing out conflicting information, politicizing the pandemic, etc. I’m simply obeying the branch because it’s the branch. I don’t have trust in any of these government officials and never know what to believe about what they’re saying. There’s a lot of contradiction going on. I follow the branch only.

  38. Well obviously, yes we do. 😊 The posts above were talking about the Melbourne area lockdown. It is virtually impossible to get that kind of scale here in the states. Even if the order or mandate exists, people don’t listen to it! That’s what I mean. Maybe Australians are more laid back. I don’t know. I just know that lockdowns and masks are highly contentious around here. It seems we have gotten to a point where none of that will work anymore. They would have to enforce with the national guard to make it happen. So best bet is to stay home and follow branch directions for sure!

  39. Following on from hatcheckgirls post, The state of Victoria is now being closed off to the rest of Australia as of midnight tonight. https://www.google.com.au/amp/s/amp.9news.com.au/article/202d7b1d-dbb7-4bcb-9b0e-8c19c4ba0b8e Melbourne will be completely cut off from the rest of the country tonight as a new lockdown begins in a bid to control the coronavirus crisis. Borders are already closed, cutting Victoria off from every other state, as the rest of the country watches anxiously for how fresh waves of COVID-19 will continue to spread. Health Minister Greg Hunt said the new spike was "more significant than anybody had anticipated" and was the reason for the first closure in 100 years of the Victoria-NSW border from 12.01am today. What we are facing now, the response we had planned for, unfortunately, is on a scale that is greater than was expected," Mr Hunt told A Current Affair. Mr Hunt said the military would continue to be used to help states contain the virus. "For Victorians and Melbourne residents: I know this is hard … (but) we have done this before, we will get through it," he said. The return to Stage Three lockdown begins from midnight, putting all of Greater Melbourne and the Mitchell Shire under stay-at-home orders for six weeks. School holidays in the state are being extendedfor another week.

  45. So, to sum up what the video and the news people found ... the answer to the question of, "Which face masks provide best protection?" The one you are wearing! If it stays in your pocket or in your car or you leave it at home it does no good at all. Something is better than nothing. Now, if someone would do a study that is about "talking" with a mask and which one works best that way - that might be more in keeping with what is needed. I doubt that the majority of people who have contracted C-19 were all sneezed on. My guess is that only a small number of them got it that way. I would think more got it being in a crowd where people were "talking". Even before the need to wear a mask - most people did "cover up" in some way when they sneezed. There were less people who covered up when they coughed ,but many did - even if they did cough into their hand.. Practically no one covered up when they talked. Oh, there were some people who tended to put their hand in front of their mouth when they talked - but not that many. So, a test of masks while talking and/or singing might be a little more apropos to the current situation. Again, like they said several times during that news video - the important thing is - you need to wear the mask for any of them to do good. Something is better than nothing. Looks like the ones our family has are the ones that tested best - My daughters spent a few days making a family supply of those for us to wear long before this study. Glad they picked the type they did since they were the winners in this study
