How I Found the Truth

  • How I found the Truth
I grew up in a divided household. My parents fought like cats and dogs, and as a result, I didn't want to hear about religion. But at 13 years old I wanted to fix my family, and so I prayed to whoever might be up there listening and purchased my first bible, a New Revised Standard Version, and began reading. In time, I became passionate over Koine Greek and translation issues, and the more I read the Bible and the deeper I dug into spiritual things, the clearer it became to me that Jehovah's Witnesses were in complete harmony with the word of God.

My Hobbies & Interests

  • My Interests
Family - doing things together with my wife and children is wonderful - a family that plays together (and prays together), stays together. I'm a Bible teacher and much of my interests center around following in the footsteps of Jesus Christ (1 Peter 2:21). I'm also an internet junkie - probably not a good thing.
  • My favorite books
God's Word, the Holy Bible (I've collected over 40 translations of this book in Hebrew, Greek, English, and Spanish).
Truth in Translation: Accuracy and Bias in English Translations of the New Testament by Jason David BeDuhn
The Role of Theology and Bias in Bible Translation by Rolf Furuli
  • My favorite music
Such a broad range that it is too much to list. Mike Patton (Faith No More, Mr. Bungle, Tomahawk, Fantomas, Peeping Tom, Mondo Cane, and more), The Cure, Andrea Bocelli, and classical music too. Popular music is okay, until it has been played to death. Probably shouldn't mention some of these. Sadly, you have to listen to an album and weed out the bad songs on just about anything these days.
  • My favorite quotes
And you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free - Jesus at John 8:32

  1. No. A wedding talk in JW culture is just the same as most other talks. The couple is sitting on stage and the speaker is speaking directly to them. At the end they exchanged rings, the groom is told he may kiss the bride, and then he presents them as a married couple to the audience. Afterwards there is a reception at a remote location.
  2. Yes, there is a wedding talk outline. But like all outlines, they are just the shell of a talk. We have to add some substance, put it into our own words, and even tailor it to each couple.
  3. One that I like is that the three-fold cord in Ecclesiastes can be likened to a triangle, with Jehovah at the top, and the husband on one bottom corner and the wife on opposite bottom corner. As they focus on drawing closer to Jehovah, they will naturally draw closer to each other. Likewise, if one of them starts to draw away from Jehovah, they will also start to distance themselves from their mate. So the key to maintaining that threefold cord to to keep Jehovah at the center of your marriage.
  4. I've heard that they consider Jesus to be just another prophet who went a little bonkers and started calling himself God's son.
  5. We should start a JW Library feature requests topic and pin it
  6. I don't see the problem with this terminology. I was not "born in the truth" as my dad didn't get baptised until I was 10 years old. Even still, I had no interest in learning from him for a few years after that. My kids on the other hand are "born in the truth", meaning that they were born to a set of witness parents. Likewise, they are being "raised in the truth", meaning that their God-fearing parents are inculcating Jehovah's word into them, and they are learning from Jehovah himself as well. One day I pray they will "make the truth their own" and dedicated their lives to serving him.
  7. I can usually tell when someone is feeling down, or can recognize that someone might be up to no good. "Bad associations spoile useful habits?" - "The one walking with wise persons will become wise". "Smile - it's contagious!" Well, if I am feeling positive and upbeat, it's pretty easy to wear that on me so that everyone sees it. If I am down and out, it's a struggle to fake being positive and upbeat, but I will try my best anyway
  8. This topic: "Do animals go to heaven?" New topic: "Do animals go in my mouth?"
  9. Just an FYI.... The "eating meat" discussion is for this thread, and when I come back home from work later, I will probably split it into a new topic. This is okay though, as since the other topic cannot be replied to, this will allow everyone to chew on it some more and write the same things they did over the years all over again
  10. I love when scientists finally come out and say something that I have been saying for years If I recall, ancient Jewish culture felt the same way.
  11. Moved to Secular News forum I scrolled and saw the picture of a pool with a big view of the outside and thought that was kinda demented, lol. "Hey, wanna go for a dip and watch the world burn?" "Sure!" Then I noticed that the garden was artificial and under ground.
  12. We had one touch down in the Canton Ohio area just a couple days ago also. Spring is in the air
  13. [off-topic] Sounds like what the left is doing in the United States. Yet the article called it the 'conservative mood' in Russia. [/off-topic]
  14. Canadian side is definitely the side you want to visit. The New York side is behind the falls, whereas the Canadian side has a spectacular view of them. On the Canadian side, the boat is called the Hornblower. Your options are laid out for you in packages, here... https://www.niagarafallstourism.com/attraction-packages We got the Adventure Pass if I remember. We we're only staying 2 nights so time was limited and we thought it was the best one. There is an amusement park called MarineLand that's just out of town that was nice. Also, if you want to eat, you should drive 10 minutes or so north away from the touristy areas. You'll find the same restaurants but the prices are less.
