  1. Windows will straight up tell you to use their 5GB OneDrive to transfer from computer to computer after Windows 10. Over the internet. Apparently using a direct or local network connection is tooooo harrrrrd since they broke SMB. Sorry to say the simplest way anymore tends to be doing it manually using a local drive. I can give a couple MicroSD/USB flash drive recommendations. Most program and windows personal settings are under your user/appdata/. You can download several primary apps from http://www.ninite.com with no bloat. I used to use Chocolatey package manager, though it had some issues, but Windows 10 has finally joined the 21st century with it's own Winget package manager now, and here's an even easier way to use it, Winstall. https://www.howtogeek.com/700045/how-to-easily-install-apps-with-windows-10s-package-manager-using-winstall/ When it comes to general account/cloud stuff, that's easy enough with just a login. Themes and Windows settings can be synced across Windows sign ins now, though making a backup doesn't hurt. It largely depends on what all you're wanting to move. https://smile.amazon.com/dp/B089VTYNF7/ https://smile.amazon.com/dp/B01EZ0X55C/
  2. As asked, how old is it? Most motherboards have a standard CR2032 coin style battery for the BIOS/CMOS, which can last roughly 10 years, maybe more. Motherboard warranties tend to be much shorter, at most 3 years. Simplest way to know it needs a new battery is when your computer no longer holds time or BIOS settings when shut down. Also depending on the motherboard, sometimes the tabs holding the batteries get broken when you go to replace them... I've had a couple of computers break sleep mode and/or restarts before, though I believe that was due to some static damage or capacitor failure on the motherboard. Protip, never vacuum the internals of your computer or any external 3.5mm/usb/etc ports that can carry static shock. Use an air bulb or compressed air. https://www.howtogeek.com/243901/the-pros-and-cons-of-windows-10s-fast-startup-mode/ Personally, I disable Fast Startup on my machines. I'd recommend at least disabling sleep settings for now, just have your computer at least turn off the display when you go away, and do manual shutdowns when not using it. Personally, lack of sleep was never enough for me to warrant a new computer, provided it still does what is needed.
  3. I have no idea the possible cause. What version are you on? I'm on 12.4.152 in the Settings tab. You can try updating your apps through the Microsoft Store if it's old. You might also try adding a tag manually in the top right corner of the Study tab.
  4. I'm not sure what you mean by 'they don't move'? On JW Library in Windows, I am able to go to a note, select Add a Tag, open the emoji list with Win+., left click on an emoji to insert it at the cursor, close the emoji list by clicking on the X icon, then left click Add a Tag "emoji goes here 🐾" in JW Library. Then it becomes a saved tag.
  5. On a Windows PC, you hold the Windows key and press period to open the emoji input. Unfortunately, this combination makes it impossible for a T-Rex to use... 🦖
  6. Not that I'm aware of? I assume you have to change the language within each category, or reinstall.
  7. There are some GUI options available that let you choose individually somewhat. I believe https://github.com/Sycnex/Windows10Debloater supports that. I previously went through Chris' script and manually changed some of the options to customize it a bit. Though I don't feel the need for such scripts with my current computers.
  8. Is this referring to 'Circuit Assembly'? Can you link or reference specifically what kind of file you are talking about? Is it a JW Library publication? (You can only add notes via highlighting in JW Library)
  9. I know a lot of digital artists loved the Surface Studio line, so I expect it will be solid and be able to do everything well. Acer and HP have some comparable modern offerings in the laptop form factor with hinged screen. I've got a Lenovo Chromebook Duet 2-in-1, almost never use the keyboard with it as I have a desktop and laptop for those use cases, but it has USI stylus support and wonderful as a tablet. Hope the Surface works out well, you'll definitely enjoy using it.
  10. I'm subbed to him and I've used a few of his Linux & Windows guides. That video is actually a bit out of date, he has debloat scripts and some GUI tools now, though they can disable certain Windows/Microsoft features depending on how they are configured. https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLc7fktTRMBoxajVXk9-zy6YmRfReNmCwO
  11. I would recommend against upgrading your operating system at the cost of security... let them work out the kinks first. Windows 10 is still fine. If you're running an older computer, you might find it easier to get better performance out of a Linux variant.
  12. Yes, highlights and notes are what the backup is primarily for. It does not include books or media files. When restoring the backup, it will replace or delete any highlights or notes on the device.
  13. For anyone looking for the answer to this and other such questions, I would recommend you first search JW.org. Particularly the help & support section JW Library. https://www.jw.org/en/online-help/jw-library/ Searching for 'jw library backup' gives this video as the first result: https://www.jw.org/en/library/videos/#en/mediaitems/AccomplishMinistry/pub-mwbv_202109_3_VIDEO
  14. The Amazon Fire version of JW Broadcasting has several issues and doesn't work very well. I've tried it on a 4k Fire Stick. It's basically been abandoned. Regarding TVs, I have no idea locally or in your market, sorry. Still using a 2007? Samsung 32" 1080p as a third monitor to my PC.
  15. Much love for the friends that I've made here, especially those who have counseled and encouraged me over the years. It was a large influence in helping me progress to baptism, and learning how to deal with many of my personal issues. Thank you Bob and all of the moderators for your efforts to provide a safe format for these discussions. I will continue to look forward to the day that we may be able to associate without any of the current problems or worries. (Psalm 141:5) Should the righteous one strike me, it would be an act of loyal love; Should he reprove me, it would be like oil on my head, Which my head would never refuse. My prayer will continue even during their calamities. (Psalm 22:26) The meek will eat and be satisfied; Those seeking Jehovah will praise him. May you enjoy life forever.

How I Found the Truth

  • How I found the Truth
I was raised by Witness parents, knowing the Bible and loved Jehovah as an infant. However, I did not have strong active spiritual role models or goals, and had plenty of mental disorders. I developed several debilitating chronic illnesses starting around puberty, and felt stumbled due to fragrances causing me such pain. I didn't make any more spiritual progress and stopped attending meetings, but I continued to listen over the phone for about 15 years. My faith and spiritual habits steadily declined as I sank deeper into isolation and depression. (Pr 18:1) I lived a virtual life, addicted to the computer and internet for literal days at a time, and eventually hit rock bottom. I was in chronic fatigue, pain, sleep deprivation and suffered some brain damage, having no reason to live and always wishing for death. I came to realize one day, probably thanks to a witness online who sent me a talk, that I would never be happy focusing on myself. Jehovah never caused my suffering, he was still providing for my needs despite my selfish lifestyle, and he wanted to help me to come to serve him. However, I had to be willing to make changes, to show Jehovah that I wanted to come to know him better, to serve him and to trust him. I started a new routine of Bible reading and prayer, and started learning how to eat better so that I could perhaps reverse my disorders. However, I was still trapped in many addictive habits. In time, I was desperately praying for spiritual friends to replace my bad association. Jehovah sent a new Elder in the congregation to me, a former missionary and regular pioneer, probably the most zealous minister that I have ever met. Jehovah was also training him to learn patience as he spent years taking the time to write and talk with me, encouraging me and helping me to start studying again, becoming my closest friend. I started taking my health very seriously, viewing my diet and lifestyle as a way of giving my best to Jehovah, in order to become physically strong enough to worship him. Eventually, I became well enough that I was able to endure attending meetings, later followed by becoming a publisher thanks to letter writing, later still able to do a little door to door work and participate in meetings, and finally progressing to baptism after a total of some 6 years it took me to 'Return to Jehovah'. Jehovah has guided and supported me each step of the way, as long as I fully commit myself to relying on him and doing his will.

My Hobbies & Interests

I'm especially partial to stories that reflect the dichotomy between tragedy and hope - Ruth is my favorite book in the scriptures. I really appreciate the renaissance of 'New World' novels. My favorite writings tend to be campy, humorous, satirical. I love comics and grew up with the best in Calvin & Hobbes. I don't often read physical books anymore aside from the Bible, I prefer audiobooks or digital.

(Psalm 73:26) My body and my heart may fail, But God is the rock of my heart and my portion forever.

(Nehemiah 8:10) He said to them: “Go, eat the choice things and drink what is sweet, and send portions of food to those who have nothing prepared; for this day is holy to our Lord, and do not feel sad, for the joy of Jehovah is your stronghold.”

(2 Corinthians 1:3, 4) Praised be... the Father of tender mercies and the God of all comfort, 4 who comforts us in all our trials so that we may be able to comfort others in any sort of trial with the comfort that we receive from God.
