  1. a cut and paste from BBC News (https://www.bbc.com/news/world-africa-47624156): Cyclone Idai has triggered a "massive disaster" in southern Africa affecting hundreds of thousands if not millions of people, the UN says. The region has been hit by widespread flooding and devastation affecting Mozambique, Zimbabwe and Malawi. Mozambique's President Filipe Nyusi has called it "a humanitarian disaster of great proportion". He said more than 1,000 people may have been killed after the cyclone hit the country last week. Cyclone Idai made landfall near the port city of Beira in Sofala province on Thursday with winds of up to 177 km/h (106 mph). "This is shaping up to be one of the worst weather-related disasters ever to hit the southern hemisphere," Clare Nullis, from the UN's weather agency, told the BBC on Tuesday. So many sources and the news is devastating - we have congregations there I keep watching our site for updates ~ does anyone know how our brothers are fairing?
  2. I second that WOW!!! Gorgeous!! I have pictures of years gone by and homes no longer … With seeds just delivered - we are hoping to once again create an oasis to retreat to ~ looking forward to the green of spring, the sound of birds and the warm of the sun and tomatoes that taste like tomatoes.
  3. Oh so true ~ when did the ground becomes so low?? Those are all fabulous and fun concepts! Be sure what ever one you invest in (be it money and or time) that they can withstand the sun. It is always surprising the damage they suffer from a season and some products have even been not the safest for growing our foods.
  4. Oh so very sorry to hear about your back! Giving it the right rest ~ this is a good time to catch up on all those things that normally we don't have the time for … ie those informational YouTubes. Just so I can be sure I am "productive" with my "down time" I like to keep a list of topics I want to know more about and try to find reliable sources of information. I think I now know how to espalier fruit trees. We are excited about working on our garden!
  5. How long ago did you move there? I ask cuz often when folks move in where they haven't had a chance to see the garden come alive - as in green - often what seemed like all just weeds turned out to be gorgeous plants. Often we sold our places in the dead of winter and we left notes for the new people as to what the plants were so they wouldn't take out things before they had a chance to see them "blossom" so to speak.
  6. We found it on YouTube ... type in “how to grow a vegetable garden - Back to Eden organic vegetable gardening film there are lots of other YouTube’s where he does some interviews ... in addition to naysayers or those with “click bait” titles ... this is not a method for large commercial farms but this does appeal to the home gardener yearning for rewards for their efforts. It definitely has promise ... He (Paul) spoke of the many many years of the same back breaking efforts in vain ... I look forward to hearing your thoughts 😀
  7. Hubby and I watched this film last week (the film is online). This is a no till method ... we are definitely intrigued! Granted this is a “takes time” method ... and the fellow, Paul Gautschi, whose garden and technique is being documented, is a strong believer of his Bible ... I really appreciated his enthusiasm. His farm is in Washington state USA ... but his technique has a following around the world ... Film is worth a watch and a good listen 😀
  8. Yes please!! I too would love to have the calendar file ~ Many thanks!!
  9. Wonderful!! Thank you so much! Does anyone have access and the ability and time to convert the PDF list of names to an Excel file? The PDFs are heavy on the toner (and my printer is functioning on very little ink right now) and was hoping to make it an excel file but don't have the program to do it. That would make this project all the easier! Many thanks to anyone considering making that happen!
  10. Thanks for the link … According to that site we share the highest on the graph with the Mormons... both at 89% … Interesting and refreshing on the stats for those with a sense of gratitude
  11. I know a couple here that have made it their first choice ~ and it would be mine if I were able. I hope that you do get to go - It would be so nice for everyone to get their choices
