Slower Brain Connections May Be at Root of Dyslexia

Here is an interesting article for those with dsylexia

 

Glitches in the connections between certain brain areas may be at the root of the common learning disorder dyslexia, a new study suggests.

But using sensitive brain imaging techniques, Boets and colleagues found that was not the case in 23 dyslexic adults they studied. The phonetic representations in their brains were just as "intact" as those of 22 adults with normal reading skills.

Instead, it seemed that in people with dyslexia, language-processing areas of the brain had difficulty accessing those phonetic representations.

"A relevant metaphor might be the comparison with a computer network," said Boets, of the Leuven Autism Research Consortium in Belgium. "We show that the information -- the data -- on the server itself is intact, but the connection to access this information is too slow or degraded."

Maybe this explains why I am having such a difficult time learning Vietnamese - slow connections???

 

Perhaps my brother was right all along  

 

note: I am hopeful - that somehow Mountain Dew will figure in to the cure

Oh, for goodness sakes. Vietnamese? You are learning to speak Vietnamese? Me, and my dyslexia. English. I have a bad time with all sorts of letter combinations in the English language. Nevermind the left, right, and directions. Of the wind. To this day, I actually have to stop and think where the sun sets, and rises. Even the broken line on the highway. I have to think about which lane can, or cannot pass. I can read and have a clean driving record. I just life sort of careful. Any one who can take on a second language....congratulations! I am just so grateful one day, we will all speak one language, other then the pure one we all share.

Excess sugar just slows down your brain. I know, I have type 2 diabetes.

My head feels really dopy when my sugar is high.

 

Most people consume too much sugar.

Me too. Reading maps, I have to turn it upside down if I going a different way.

I have problems with maps too, I am never at the place I want to start from.  People used to stop me in the street to ask for directions and I would say "I wouldn't go there from here."

 

Too much bacon (or the fish-finger equivalent)?  Maybe the Foggy Dew will help me?
