Take a lesson from the lilies of the field.—Matt. 6:28.

 

Jesus turns our attention to Jehovah’s handiwork. We can learn a lot from the appearance of “the lilies of the field.” Jesus may have had in mind such lilylike flowers as gladiolus, hyacinths, irises, and tulips—all beautiful in their own way. These creations do not have to spin thread and sew or weave garments for themselves. Yet, their blooms are gorgeous to behold! Why, “not even Solomon in all his glory was arrayed as one of these”! Do not miss the point of what Jesus is saying: “If this is how God clothes the vegetation of the field . . . , will he not much rather clothe you, you with little faith?” (Matt. 6:29, 30) Most assuredly he will! Jesus’ disciples, though, were somewhat lacking in faith. (Matt. 8:26; 14:31; 16:8; 17:20) They needed stronger faith and trust in Jehovah. What about us? How strong is our faith in Jehovah’s desire and ability to provide for us? w16.07 1:15, 16

This text jumped out at me for two reasons.  Yesterday my husband had taken me to a nursery to show me some flowers he wanted for the house.  They were some type on Song Bird something or other and another was Tahiti something. Lol.  You can tell I don’t know @nything about flowers or gardening. But the details of these georgeous creations were remarkable!  Colors were so  varied and so beautiful.  We stood there patiently examining and painstakingly turning the flower from side to side so gently as not to harm them, taking in their beauty from every angel.   A good 20 minutes we spent intently looking at these things. Read this scripture perhaps 100’s of times but never did it touch me in such a way. Then when reading the text just now it resonated with me the meaning of this scripture.

The eye opener was the last sentence/question of today’s text.  It struck a nerve.  How strong is my faith in Jehovah’s desire and ability to take care of me?  100% in his Ability!  His desire though? I really question his desire to want to care for me.  Im feeling pretty worthless right now.  More of a burden to him than a praiser...
