Yep - just got my HAM radio license ! Technician level.

I guess it's officially the American Radio Relay League.

 

The opportunity came up to Cram, then Exam . . .lol

I knew nothing about this subject. But, after cramming with instructors for five hours (one of them called it a 'brain bomb') , I passed the exam !

So, what do we call ourselves - HAMmers ?!  Do we have any here ?

We were visiting in service the other day, and ham operators came up. Apparently this sort of communication will come in very handy when, say cellular service is down. As in a major disaster. This is what I know. You did good brother!

Yes, Ham Operator is a skill used by LDC/Disaster Relief.

 

It has been used in several of the recent disasters while cell service was interrupted.

As I literally know nothing about Ham Radio... you need a license? How much does one cost .. I am sure there is a price range. Can you start with under $100? It’s very interesting to me. Give me a little information please. I know I will be researching it, but just in the curiosity stage at the moment.
