Freezing sidebar

This is  a bit complicated so I hope I can explain clearly.

This is on an Android tablet not iPad

On the JW app we can see a sidebar on the right that shows gems or study notes etc.

This can be shown or closed as desired

Sometimes the note has a reference link to another note.

When I go to such a note then return to the first note by using the return arrow at the top of the sidebar, it freezes.

The main page still moves as usual. Only the sidebar is affected.

If I change the orientation of the tablet from say vertical to horizontal ( or vice versa ) it unfreezes.

So I find myself constantly changing the orientation of the tablet just to unfreeze the sidebar.

The sidebar does not freeze unless I go to another reference link then return to the first note.

If I stay on the original first note page it never freezes

 I have reinstalled the app a couple of times but the problem still remains.

It could be that I am using a relatively old version of Android ( 4.4.2) but everything else works just fine, so I wonder why it happens

Has anyone else experienced this and any ideas on how I can stop the freezing?

Does it return normally if you use the Android "return" arrow instead of the one in the app?

If I do that it just takes me back to the front page of the Bible book that I am looking at.

The page that has all the chapters and overview.

Have you checked the amount of memory? It almost sounds like you are close to the memory limit of the tablet.

Have you tried switching it off and switching it on? Seriously, a complete switch off and then back on can clear the memory of debris and any gremlins that may have crept in to the tablet. Always worth a try.

Since it is an Android tablet, I doubt an iOS update would help

Ok, as David mentioned above, start with the basics:

• Restart your tablet
• Make sure your Android os is up to date, or else, update it.
• Try clearing the cache.  It may be low on memory, and temp files are filling up necessary space:
  • Clear the app's cache

    Clearing cached data can free up needed space by removing temporary files. This is a short-term solution. Over time, cached data will build up again.

    To clear the cache for the app:

    1. Open your device's Settings app .
    2. Tap Apps & notifications.
    3. Tap the app. If you don't see it, first tap See all apps or App info.
    4. Tap Storage  Clear cache.

Plenty of memory

Cache cleared. Now 0.00mb

Restarted the device

Etc

Still have the problem

Still having the same problem.

I have tried the app on another tablet of the exactly the same make and model and it has the same problem.

Could be something to do with that.

Tablet is Lenovo Yoga 8 running Android 4.4.2

Any other ideas welcome
