The Demise of my Willow Tree ...

Recommended Posts

I have or rather, had a mighty Willow in our front yard ... it was where I sat to contemplate on occasion .. it provided peace and made me happy when I looked at it.

Well yesterday (coincidentally 18 hrs after our 6.2 earthquake which I'm SURE had no bearing on it whatsoever ... i think) ... I was getting ready for work, it was 9:15 am, and I heard these loud creaking noises, I looked out my window and lo and behold! My Willow was toppling in slow motion. It had split right down the middle!! Covering our driveway, but missing the powerlines, thankfully. Now my 70 plus year old Willow lies in pieces on  our front lawn, birds are confused and baby birds ejected from their nests early.

A sad day indeed. ... But I'm over it! Funny I would have fought tooth and nail to save her if she was being threatened, but when she toppled on her own, there just nothing one can achieve by getting upset ... there is a bit still in the ground so it may grow again.

It is sad to see a big tree go. We had some rurals where one of the properties had a 'Cedar of Lebanon', (somehow of the pine family...?)
but a storm came through and took her down. She looked so majestic.
One of her boughs - now on the ground - is bigger than most trees. She was so big we lost perspective.
All that left is a few pieces I keep with my clothes. I was told bugs (silverfish etc) don't like the smell... so I asked the gardener to give me a few slices.
All in all, a sad end to a grand old tree from the 1800's

Don't you just think it's awesome how we can get attached to TREEs? Just another one of those little things Jehovah made us in such a special way to enjoy everyday life.

How can anybody think living forever could ever be boring.

This is a very good observation Ruben.

I find myself very curious and “attached” to Jehovah’s creation in whatever form.

For me, promised everlasting life is a JOY RIDE.

Man was created as an intelligent creature with the desire to explore and understand :)

I just saw this Mands - I remember that tree (although it has been a few years since I have seen it in person!)

So sad it has gone :( I get very attached to trees too, don't know what I would do if my Kowhai tree fell!
