Broad Gauge has a better ride more comfortable. Where I live now all narrow Gauge. More versatile as freights and passenger trains  can run on without too many delays. We have dual gauge from Brisbane but that’s only down to Sydney that’s a diesel electric passenger service. All stops,  the XPT they call it.

I rode the Virginia & Truckee Railroad out of Virginia City, NV a few years ago.  Maybe 4 mile round trip history lesson of the Silver mining days.  Well worth the ticket. Interesting enough the Virginia City to Carson City track (21 mile) was Standard Gauge but the Virginia & Colorado Railroad was Narrow Gauge serving mining areas to the south. The engine house in Carson City is now a train museum. Well worth the ticket also if you like trains.

Gauge is the distance between the inside edges of the rails
