“Someday”

Recommended Posts

When Alan Menken and Steven Schwartz started to collaborate, it resulted in the animated 1996 Disney film “The Hunchback of Notre Dame”. The music was, by far, the most worked through of all animated Disney musicals, even though the story was less so. This was rectified in a production that began life in Berlin, as Der Glöckner von Notre Dame ("The Bellringer of Notre Dame"), where it ran for 3 years, and later a production in the US. It generally received rave reviews. Instead of adapting the animated film, Victor Hugo’s original novel was used as a base, combined with the Menken-Schwartz music.

“Someday” is sung by Esmeralda, a young gypsy girl, who is tormented by judge Claude Frollo, the Archdeacon of Notre Dame, Paris, shortly before she dies. A small stage becomes the setting for a grand story of great resilience and hope in the face of unspeakable evil. An adaption for the large screen is planned for later this year.

🎵“I have listened to Jesus in these troublesome days,

He lights up my path.

As I hear and obey.”
