Next week I start with a new oncologist/hematologist. My doc right now does not specialize in monoclonals, myelomas, chronic persistent anemia, ad. infinitem. I learned that treatment may include recommendation of self-stem-cells.  I immediately concluded, "not for me." But I came across this thought provoking article; http://www.ascopost.com/issues/november-25-2017/a-pioneer-in-bloodless-transplant-discusses-advances-in-blood-management/

Anybody ever hear about this?

p.s, I did not see this article quoted here, before. Kindly delete if repetitious.

My  hubby's oldest sister is a retired RN and she recently had her own stem cells injected into her knee, in lieu of a knee replacement.

But I have never heard of this before.  After reading the article, I still am completely clueless as to what  'this' is. :)

My son had relapsed hodgkins lymphoma (blood cancer) and had a bloodless stem cell transplant. Your welcome to pm if you have any questions.

I know someone a sister in Germany whose baby had a non-blood stem cell transplant for a rare illness.

Are bone marrow transplants the same as stem cell? I know there are two hospitals in the United States that do No Blood bone marrow transplants on Jehovah's Witnesses.  I believe Cedars-Sinai in California and the University of Pennsylvania.  I hope this helps but I'm wondering about stem cell versus bone marrow.

I know that it's conscience matter if it's bloodless.

There's an article from the 80's on bone marrow transplants.

A dear sister had cancer, and she desperately wanted to try Stem Cell treatment.  She couldn't find anyone in USA to do it not even as a test, she went as far as Tiwain for treatment of stem cell.  But it was like Jehovah stopped her in time.  The doctor over there in some back alley treatment center did not give her the stem cells she wanted.  First of all, it would have cost her $30,000.00 of which she had routed there to a bank through the doctor.  Those few in the congregation tried to convince her not to go there and do this.  She had no idea if it had blood in it or not, but she was desperate.  In the long run, he never got her $30,000.00, but he did charged her $400.00 for a accut puncture treatment, which she could have done hear in her back yard!  The sister eventually died, she ate and drank everything organic.  The doctors (whom she hated with a passion) gave her less then 1 year to live, she out live the year they said she would have died.  But she did fall asleep in death about 2 years ago.    If in 2020 they come out with safe bloodless stems cell and they're from your body how will this cure your illness on the other part of your body?  Isn't one's blood all running in the same areas of the body?

I read this, it reminds me of the small amount of blood/water found in meats at the grocery story.  My conscious would have no issue, (small amounts) but then I am not someone else' conscious.

This has recently been a subject in my close associates. When not anemic the individual takes a medication to stimulate the overproduction of stem cells ( Filgastram ) . The  donor will feel like they have the flu their bone marrow will crank out so many stem cells. These are then harvested through a form of dialysis for later infusion. This process of stem cell donation is among the procedures considered to be a matter of conscience as it is effectively the same as bone marrow ( also a matter of conscience).
