In Sister Loje's thread on Cataracts astigmatism was mentioned several times, but it was never explained.

Yesterday I had an eye exam (spawned by my hubby's near brush with blindness from his glaucoma)

and was told that my vision is 20/20 but that I need corrective lens for astigmatism.

I had no idea what astigmatism was.  In fact, I was spelling it a stigmatism. lol

So I looked it up on the new version of an encyclopedia: The world wide web. :D

If I had known about this condition I could have had it corrected YEARS AGO.

For the past decade or so, I have been attributing my poor vision symptoms to 'allergies'. *eye roll*

Astigmatism happens when the cornea or lens has an irregular shape. This makes light rays strike the retina at different points, instead of one point.

Researchers don’t yet know exactly how the irregular shape happens, but genetics and possibly development are involved. Some people develop astigmatism after an eye disease, injury or surgery.

What are the symptoms of astigmatism?

Astigmatism symptoms can include:

  • Blurry vision
  • Distorted vision (things look wavy or “off”)
  • Discomfort with reading, on a computer or in print
  • Eye strain or headaches

You might notice that you squint to see better or don’t read much because of discomfort.

The only way I can stand to read 'comfortably' is by making the font HUGE.

Which is why most of my Bible reading isn't reading at all, but Bible LISTENING.

My hubby is always handing me things he thinks will interest me, but I never read them because the small print,

(even with powerful reading glasses) is annoying more than interesting.

In nine more days, I will have my astigmatism correcting lens and I am looking forward to Bible READING once again. :D

Recommendation: If you have any of the above mentioned symptoms, get an eye exam right away and find out if astigmatism correcting lens

will improve your personal study ENJOYMENT, too. :D

I was first given specs for astigmatism at age 40. Looking at the stars reveals it! A diagonal smudge instead of a point.

But with the correct specs since then my vision is good, with good lighting. I can discern that the loop in the padlock in the corner of my iPad is closed from about 18”/45cm away. The % sign is perfectly clear.

The conclusion of the matter, everything having been heard, is: Fear the true God and keep his commandments, for this is the whole obligation of man. Ec 12:13
