Probitoic and Prebiotic for Brain and IBS

Recommended Posts

I didn't think it would help with IBS or my brain burning and hurting, or with headaches and migraines but they did.

Six weeks ago my sister urged me to take a Probiotic for my brain. Due to ME/CFS and Fibromyalgia (FM), I have headaches, migraines, and my brain will burn and hurt on its entire top perimeter. I also have IBS which is common with ME/CFS and FM. (ME/CFS impacts multiple body systems and is a systemic disease. The immune system and metabolic function are impacted as well as the neurological system and is considered a neuroimmune disease. The US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) now has a ME/CFS page. Fibromyalgia is a life-long central nervous system disease.)

Immediately my IBS greatly improved and I no longer have to take an over the counter product with each meal that reduces gas. My brain has not burned again (this happens to ME/CFS patients) although it was on the verge of doing so twice and the top perimeter does not hurt. I have not had a migraine since and my headaches have not happened very often and when they have the pain is reduced by 90%.

I drink 2/3 of a 12 oz glass of the prebiotic mix over 15 minutes and the last 1/3 with 2 probiotic capsules.

Probiotics introduce good gut bacteria and prebiotics are the food source they are able to feed on. I get 8 strains of 14 billion live bacteria in my probiotic and my prebiotic is an organic mix of acacia fiber, Jerusalem artichoke fiber, and green banana flour. Some yogurts contain both prebiotic and probiotic mixes and probiotics can also come from natural sources such as yogurt, aged cheese, kefir, miso, kimchi, brined pickles without vinegar, cottage cheese, sauerkraut, and shoyu. Prebiotic foods are asparagus, Jerusalem artichokes, bananas, oatmeal, and legumes.

Antibiotics can cause a great strain of good bacteria and perhaps supplementation for a couple of weeks after a course can help. Other medications and diseases, illnesses can also put a strain on good gut bacteria.
