Question from hindus

Recommended Posts

Br. Aruguma, I don't think many people would know what tilaka is. I had to look it up on the Internet, because I had never heard it before. If you google tilak or tilaka, you will find a lot of info on the origins and significance of it. I am sure there will be even more info in Hindi or your native tongue.

Why hindus and matha worshiper using tilak?

What is the origin?

From Britannica:

From Wikipedia:

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tilaka

Clearly many different types for many different reasons for many different people of religions related to Hindu.

Can you tell us if the above is sufficient as well as why you ask this?

Some images of Matha - some involving tilakas - here:

https://www.bing.com/images/search?q=matha&id=CE9BA4B0EFC69E6575F7588897F37EEB508F9E7A&FORM=IQFRBA

Concerning different sects of Matha see:

https://www.britannica.com/topic/matha

Excerpt:

"Other Hindu sects have also formed mathas. The Vaishnava group, the Shri Vaishnavas (devotees of the god Vishnu), established monastic centres in Srirangam, Melkote, and elsewhere from the time of the founder of their sect, Ramanuja (c. 1017–1137)."

in fact, one type of tilak(a) is said to be of the foot of Vishnu (one of the 3 primary gods of HInduism : Brahma the Creator; Vishnu the preserver; Siva the destroyer).

On HInduism see this chapter in our book on religions (Search for God);

https://wol.jw.org/en/wol/pc/r1/lp-e/1200272717/42/1

I suggest studying that chapter if you have not already done so.
