Eponyms

Read in a different thread about some places that call all vacuum cleaners "Hoovers."  Rather than go OT, I thought I'd start a new topic for Eponyms.  Eponym is the definiiton of a Brand name that becomes genericized, that is, it becomes generally recognized as referring to the entire category. Examples: Xerox, Q-tip, Frigidaire, Bandaid and Kleenex. Frequently, the eponym has become so common, that people would be hard pressed to find a general term (I.E. swab with cotton, plastic adhesive bandage, photocopy.) In some parts, people use the word Coke for any carbonated beverage, ex. Root beer Coke, Orange Coke, Lemon-lime Coke.  What's commonly uncommon where you live?

I assume we won't get "brands" in Paradise, even though we will probably build/create differente version of the same tools, depending on the place, and time... what if we give these tools non-technical name... then we could get some eponyms.
