Just imperfect?

Recommended Posts

I came across this from C S. Lewis just the other day : " Fallen man is not simply an imperfect creature who needs improvement. He is a rebel who must lay down his arms.

Laying down your arms, surrendering, saying you are sorry, realising you have been on the wrong track and getting ready to start life over again... is what Christians call repentance ".

This impacted me, I thought about how many times we say" well we're all imperfect ", and I think too that in my mind at least, I've been imaging a gradual improvement in the new world as we go along, just as Lewis mentioned. Although intellectually I know Adam and Eve were rebels, do I perceive us all in that light, because we are all in the same fallen state? A light bulb moment.

Except humans also need improvement, but improvement is severely limited by our imperfection. That's why it was Jehovah's will to provide the ransom so that people would have the opportunity to become restored to our original imperfection. While we are imperfect, none of us can improve to the point of no longer needing constant guidance and correction even when we have repented. I suppose that's why that surrender and laying down of arms means, not only a lifestyle change, but a willingness to let someone else guide you in life: to say, I don't just make the choices I want. I make the choices Jehovah wants for me. This is where atheists, the non religious, and the adherents of Babylon go wrong. These kinds of people can equally be good and ethical individuals, who follow a code of ethics that provide some  benefit to mankind, and are also capable of improving themselves and their lives, but because they're not willing to surrender to doing Jehovah's will in the course of their lives, they don't fulfill his purpose, and thus, if they don't repent, won't be in line for the improvement that Jehovah intends for mankind.
