Tornado-shaped cloud seen over Brecon Beacons

A funnel cloud shaped like a tornado has been captured on camera near Brecon in Powys.

Daniel Meredith spotted the unusual phenomenon on Sunday as he was driving around Wales recording images of thunder and lightning and other extreme weather over the past week.

A similar funnel believed to be a waterspout was also seen in the Bristol Channel on the same day.

Just lately with all this strange biploar weather, we've had a few, usually we never get any touch down at all.

I've always found them creepy. But I was raised on the movie Twister from a young age, haha.

I was traumatized at a very young age when my parents allowed me to watch The Wizard of Oz movie. :(

Had recurring nightmares about tornadoes for many decades.

I watched that too! Though I found that more funny. Twister had that weird "other worldly it's alive and coming to get you" vibe, with the creepy music and such.

It makes me wonder as well, with that movie, if it's the reason I find modern wind turbines creepy. I don't know why, but seeing them in real life, even from far away, makes me feel sort of uneasy.

These fascinating pictures show a tornado-shaped cloud forming above Nottinghamshire.

Joe Clarke managed the spectacle from Collingham on Wednesday, May 12, and told Nottinghamshire Live he spotted the formation in the sky as he nipped to the shop.

Incredible picture of a funnel cloud, the precursor to a tornado, above Collingham

The county has experienced violent lightning and thunder storms this week, and the Met Office has predicted more rain later on.

The images sent in to Nottinghamshire Live show what is know as a funnel cloud, or 'tuba', according to the Met Office.

Twisters’ have been spotted in Darlington and Stockton-on-Tees, County Durham, as well as Boston, Skegness and Lincoln, Lincolnshire, with extreme weather watchers sharing their images on social media.

Several cone-shaped funnel clouds – tornadoes that do not touch the ground – have been seen across the UK in the past week.

It's mad how common they're becoming here of late.

Not to belittle the seriousness of the situation, but those are some puny tornadoes. It’s good you guys don’t get the F4 and F5 tornadoes we get here in “tornado alley” in the United States.

We'd all be dead, lol.

We've only had one "large" one which did damage, and that was 2005. I was on holiday at the time, went pitch black even when we were hours away from home (as we live very close to Brum), terrible storm. Not long after the news flash had Birmingham City's tornado broadcasted. It tore several brick houses apart. And that was only an F2. It's considered the strongest one we've had in recent history.

We don't have storm shelters over here, and our houses don't have basements or cellars. Completely unprepared for bad weather of this kind in this country. So if we did get a "huge" one, I don't kid when I say we'd be dead.
