How big is your country? Do you like it?

Recommended Posts

South Korea is so small but people living in it are too many.

Takes only about 30 minutes by plane, 3 hours by train..

But I like it that Korea is full of mountains.. and surrounded by seas, because it's peninsula.

Once I was in a train in China but as I was looking out the window, I realized all I could see was plains for 3 hours.

Only that moment did I get physically just how big China is and how scary it is.

I also came to understand why people in it are, well, stuck mentally, despite being in such a large-scale country with endless potentials

because they're stuck in this huge land they can't get out of..

At the same time I had this existential panic attack, understanding how small I am compared to this country and this large number of people.

Same thing could've happened when I was Aus but somehow I didn't feel that way.

There was something about China that scared me for sure. I don't know exactly what it was.

France is 10 hours by car, north to south. 4h by train, 1 hour by plane.

I'm used to it.

I've lived in Japan and the feeling was similar, Japan is just thinner.

I've been South Korea (only Seoul and Bethel, so I don't really know)

The longest trip I did was a 15 hours drive from my place to the South of Portugal. The landscape was very different so it was nice...

I can't imagine a long trip with the same landscape by the window. That would feel scary. Isn't it like this in Australia or in the US?

That's one of the joys of a long road trip in the US.  We drove from Washington state to New Jersey.  It took 4 days, including 2 nights of non-stop driving.  First night, I was so excited I was going to see Brooklyn Bethel I couldn't sleep, so I drove all night.  We drove from Washington to Minnesota non-stop, except to eat and see some sights.  The 2nd night, we found out that the babysitter for the sister that was letting us stay at her home got sick, so, we drove from Indiana to New Jersey non-stop, and we made it in time to babysit her daughter.  Now the whole family looks fondly on that road trip, and there's a lot of places we didn't know about that we'd love to go back to visit.

I have to tell this story 😁.  We were in Wyoming getting something to eat at a fast food restaurant, and I see some people coming in dress clothes.   Saturday, 11am.  Check.  I wait for my wife to come out and 30 mins later she's still inside.  I walked inside the restaurant to find them all talking at a table.  I came up and asked if they were witnesses.  When they said yes, I said, "I knew it!  30 mins and you're all still talking?  Dead giveaway."  They got a good laugh out of that, and we made some friends.

Not scary at all, well fear of attack never prevented me from travel, and never will.

Snakes….snakes….I don’t like snakes though.

Also crossed Germany - France - Spain by car

Exactly from Hamburg to Madrid.
Scenery was beautiful. Little towns had character and magnetic attraction.
Would like to cross USA by car (that was on the cards, but pandemic showed up)

I only crossed from west coast to New York by plane…. Only saw clouds …clouds and more clouds.

We spent several months on the road covering over 25,000km.
Most travellers are friendly folk that enjoy travel, otherwise they would probably just stay at home.
Any problem spots and their solutions are generally shared by your very travellers as you chat over the camp-fire.
We found our fellow wandering gypsies only too happy to mind our gear, or puppy 'sit' while were went on tours.

I’ve driven across the Nullarbor too, once by car when pregnant and once by train called the Indian Pacific. It’s beautiful to see open wide spaces. And spectacular to see the night skies away from the cities.

We did break down in the outback on the Nullarbor plain. My husband walked 1km to the solar powered telephone to call police for help. They said help was on the way, but no one came. So my husband asked the police to get in contact with the local JW congregation. Within an hour help had arrived. 👍Jehovah looks after his people, even in the outback of Australia.

Does anyone know Peter Duckworth from Melbourne N. congregation? He gave an amazing talk on Daniel's prophecy about the immense image today in New Smyrna N. congregation in Florida..We were visiting their meeting. He is originally from England.😉

I would say that a big country is better because you can have alot of nice places you can visit within without needing travel documents or walk(work) permit or spending so much money on tourism.

Im not sure how big Nigeria is but there are lots of nice places i can visite right in here and still have great fun.

because of the strength of the Naira, traveling abroad can be impoverishing,I think im too frugal to do  that.im not sure i would ever try that in this old world.

With the current exchange rate and the hike in fuel price, travelling to nearby Europe from Nigeria would cost well over a million Naira for flight alone excluding cost of hotel accommodation and feeding. All for what? fun? I just cannot do that.

If i have that much money i will instead  donate hugely for kingdom work.

How about visiting the various branches?  Or meeting some international friends?  There are some from Europe in this forum.

The Netherlands is a small country, it takes only 2 and a half hours to drive from the north to the south. But I like living here, the scenery is very good for cycling. And it's easy to get to other European countries from the Netherlands. But I personally do not like to do a long time in the car, I still like to take the train.

I have never seen a plain when I lived in China, I live in a place where the west is all mountains and the east is the sea. I have never been out of the province where I live😅.Because there are many mountains to cross to reach other provinces🤣
