I think this could be one step closer to the fall of Babylon the Great.

The article references "conversion" therapy and has announced a push for the criminalization of "religious teaching, prayer or other speech aimed at groups or individuals which does not affirm their view of gender or sexuality." If passed, this would mean it would be a criminal offense to have a teaching against LGBT unless it was....in the most non-judgmental or non-directive way.

This is only in one small country though.  On its own, the Scottish government is not even part of the Anglo-American world power but has limited jurisdiction on devolved matters.  A bit like the difference between Federal and state law in Australia or the US, they can make their own laws and regulations in certain matters.

I found this account last week interesting, about a muslim female team Australian Rules Football player not taking part in the Pride Week round due to the players having to wear the guernsey with the pride rainbow logo.  A lot (if not most) of the players in the team are lesbian.  But was it because her religious beliefs forbids LBGT?

https://www.theaustralian.com.au/sport/afl/pride-jumper-a-step-too-far-for-aflws-first-muslim-player-haneen-zreika/news-story/e6e444948b5b856d284c0a4e46327526

"The AFLW’s first Muslim player will not play in an LGBT pride match after deciding she cannot wear the pride jumper because it does not align with her religious beliefs.

Many of Zreika’s teammates are gay. She gets along with them and regularly travels with them to play matches.

But wearing the GWS pride jumper, rainbow blocks against the Giants’ orange, is a step too far for her.

It is understood the issue with wearing the jumper is not about her personal feelings towards LGBT people but concerns about whether wearing it aligns with the expectations and religious beliefs of her community. Zreika is a role model in her community and wants to encourage more Muslim women to play sport. She is concerned wearing the pride jumper will compromise that effort.

GWS (her team) is understood to be fully committed to the pride match and its LGBT players, but is also supporting Zreika in her decision not to play or wear the jumper."

From the above reasoning, it is not her "religious beliefs" that stops her wearing the guernsey, but the belief that it will stumble other Muslim women to play.  And the Football association is seeing the "benefits" of her being their role model, so seem not to want to make any trouble for due to her position.  So, basically, both sides have compromised.

Thank you for your reasoning on this.  I read about this too, but from a different media outlet which left out some of the information in this report.  It did however mention that she would be on the sidelines during the match, so cheering on her pride jumper-wearing team mates.

I find the bit where it says ''concerns about whether wearing it aligns with the expectations and religious beliefs of her community" enlightening.  How much does she actually believe the teachings of her religion and is it just fear of the repercussions from her 'community' that has made her take the stand she has. After all, it states 'it is not her personal feelings towards LGBT people'.

And it seems that it's okay to show her hair when she is playing sport in front of all those men..  Definitely a number of confused messages in there.

And add to that is the fact that England is introducing their own Hate crime Bill which has very similar characteristics to the Scots one. I’m sure there is something similar being drawn up in the USA (but I can’t remember the name of it).

I am aware of this (I am English - with the majority of me being Scottish).

You have read one small part of the whole and taken it out of the context of my whole comment. I said  Scotland 'on its own' is not part of the Anglo-American world power but has 'limited jurisdiction on devolved matters' (in the same way as Wales and Northern Ireland has). Nothing that Scotland, Northern Ireland or Wales do in devolved matters, affects international policy in UK as a whole.

If Scotland goes ahead and passes this bill, which I'm sure it will, it will cover only Scotland, not the whole of the UK.  On the other hand, if the British parliament makes the bill it can include England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland. Scotland can make and change as many of its own laws as it wants, but it won't affect the rest of the UK.

This has been in the news recently:
Citipointe Christian College, at Carindale in Brisbane's east, sent families a contract last Friday that said "the college will only enrol the student on the basis of the gender that corresponds to their biological sex" and asserted that homosexuality, along with bestiality, incest and paedophilia, was "sinful".
https://www.abc.net.au/news/2022-02-01/qld-christian-citipointe-school-contract-controversy-reaction/100795490

“Mr Mulheran (the principal) said the school had sought legal advice in drafting the contract, and argued it had "certain freedoms under international law and under Commonwealth and state legislation" which allowed it to include the clauses.

"The college, through the freedoms afforded to it by law, has outlined our common beliefs and practices, so that parents can choose for their children to be educated at Citipointe and join our faith-based community," Mr Mulheran said.

The union has said: "Trying to avoid anti-discrimination laws by asking parents and/or students to agree to discriminatory terms in a 'contract' is beyond shameful and rejected by our union," Mr Burke said.

"Our union believes practises in faith-based schools, and indeed in any endeavour by faith-based organisations which is conducted for and funded by the public, should reflect community standards and expectations."

The education minister said: “In this day and age, to see this happening, is actually quite unbelievable.

"We strive for an inclusive and supportive school environment — that is what we should be doing — and no student should be denied a world-class education because they are a member of the LGBTIQ+ community."

The matter has been referred to the Non-State Schools Accreditation Board, she said.

"They will be looking at this issue from the legislation," Ms Grace said.

The Religious Discrimination Bill proposed for Australia aims to INCREASE protection for Religions, especially so that they can speak out about lgbti issues without being accused of discrimination.

https://www.smh.com.au/politics/federal/what-s-the-proposed-religious-discrimination-law-about-20211129-p59d6q.html

However (and it’s too complex for me to understand), it has been opposed by pretty much everyone in the left space of politics. In a few months, the conservative government will go to the polls, and there is talk of watering down the “religious” protections or even abandoning this bill as there is less and less support from within the government itself, with members threatening to cross the floor and side with the opposition.

Its about politics - and the ministers want to appease the masses.

And an update on the story above regarding the “Christian” school and their contact for not enrolling lgbti or trans students:

The principal has emphatically backflipped and withdrawn the contract, apologising for upsetting the community. His actions were being referred to the Discrimination board and was the subject of backlash from the Education dept. As well as that, there is a petition in the school community to sack him and the school board that allowed this contract.

https://www.abc.net.au/news/2022-02-04/qld-brisbane-citipointe-christian-college-principal-parents/100802968

Christian religion, especially, is seen to be intolerant and not in step with society's norms.

This upset a few people.

Police interrupted the evening service at St Bernadette’s Catholic Church in Mount Hawthorn after reportedly receiving tips about improper mask behaviour.

“During a Catholic Mass in Perth tonight a policeman allowed himself in, strutting up the aisle demanding correct mask behaviour and checking exemptions,” the caption on the photograph, posted by Perth local Patrick Horneman reads.

“When have we seen this behaviour before in history?”

Speaking on radio 6PR, parishioner Matthew said that the incident showed a “lack of trust.”

“People are pretty taken aback by this. It’s pretty confronting and and it’s pretty troubling really to see the liturgy that you love being stopped by police,” he said.

There is so much happening in relatively small ways but over such a broad area - Scotland to Australia with most of the world in between, which ever way around the globe you go.

And we can see by all these things that the secular authorities are getting more and more involved in religions' affairs and always in a negative way. It's all beginning to really speed up in so many places.

It was passed in the House of Representatives last night. 5 members crossed the floor - one of them is, he himself, homosexual and one who lost his 15 year old homosexual nephew to suicide.

It was called Morrison's (Australian PM) hate bill - because he didn't want it to go as far as it did.  He is a Pentecostal and tried to appease both sides of the debate by keeping lgbt stuff down as far as possible. He didn't win, though it disn't go as far as the other side wanted either. As Lucy said, there's an election this year - watch this space!!!

After a marathon 10-hour debate, the Morrison Government’s contentious Religious Discrimination Bill has passed the Lower House.

https://www.abc.net.au/news/2022-02-10/religious-discrimination-bill-transgender-protection-explained/100818484

The Sex Discrimination Act already included an exemption for schools that allowed them to discriminate "in good faith" to exclude staff on the grounds of sexual orientation, gender identity, relationship status and pregnancy "in order to avoid injury to the religious susceptibilities of adherents of that religion".

The government's proposal was to remove "sexual orientation" from the list of exempted attributes that a school was allowed to discriminate on

While Labor was successful in extending protections to transgender school students, it didn't win support for proposed changes to the religious discrimination bill.

One of its most controversial elements is around "statements of belief" — a provision that would protect moderate religious beliefs from being deemed discriminatory, so long as they are not made in a malicious way and don't threaten, harass or vilify someone.

Labor argued the "statement of belief" would give religious people a privilege to discriminate against other groups.

The hijab row in India is very surprising as there is such a high population of Muslims in India.  More interference of government in religious matters.

https://www.bbc.com/news/world-asia-india-60328864

Ms Khan and millions of Muslim women in India wear the hijab and the burka every day - but the choice has turned controversial in recent weeks.

It started when students at a pre-university college, equivalent to a high school, in Karnataka's Udupi district, began protesting last month over a ban on headscarves - the college said students could wear the hijab on campus but not in the classroom.

As protests turned violent in some places, the Karnataka government closed high schools and colleges - and the matter has even reached the state's high court. A three-judge constitutional bench is set to hear the case on Thursday.

I would like to correct this information just a little. Babylon the Great actually has already fallen. I was actually referring to the time when all religion is gone and Jehovah's people are the only ones left, so that Gog of Magog turns to attack us.  Sorry for the confusion.
