What does you schools teach.

The school my girls go to encourage all the pagan days, but here

they say to the kids to go and buy a gift say $3-$5 then bring to school wrapped up to sell in a store for fun day and your child can go and buy another present for $3-$5, to raise money for the school.

and of course this is a debat here with my kids explaining we don't do that. have you heard of such a thing?

That does not sound like a fair curriculum theme. They buy a gift to sell and then have to spend more for a gift for you? Who thinks this stuff up?

Fundraising for schools is nothing new . .but it can be tricky to figure out what we can do and what we should not.

Note of suggestion: beware of teachers who pacify you with a 'we don't force kids to do Easter, Xmas' etc.

I noted some teachers use maths or geometry to try and trick our kids into colouring in Easter eggs & other decorations which are then put up on the wall freize (which broke the heart of a child who felt tricke).

I heard about it and we had a family night of figuring out how to do assigned work and not end up compromised.

Our daughter was in the situation that very week . . colour the 'ovals' in a class lesson. She coloured all the area around the oval shape but left the obvious 'egg' blank.

Teacher saw it and laughed, she could not say the task was not done . . but she coud not use the resulting egg . .which pleased us no end. )'>

I'd never forgot the time the teacher told us to look for ovals around the classroom... I was so happy I found one then we opened them and ate the candy inside ( they were little plastic eggs ( now that I think about it that split in the middle) ( I went home all proud and stuff then told my mom we looked for ovals today.... my mom kept me talking ( she kept asking me questions ) and finally she figured out and told me that our class had an Easter egg hunt ( I felt so stupid )...mom had told the teacher that we don't do those sorts of things and left the school brochure with her ....and she said we were looking for ovals ( I'm still miffed about that even though that was years ago )

Once while I was waiting to give my ESL class here in Mexico, I heard how the teacher was talking with the students about La Llorona, which is some myth about a ghost mom who goes searching for her baby at night. That got the kids to talking about ghosts, etc. I just stood there thinking, If I had a kid, I wouldn't want him in this class! Kids are going to hear all kinds of stuff at school, parents really have to train their kids well.
