What does Verizon charge for the sim card you need to use this if you already have an account with them?

Musky if you go into a Direct Verizon store the sim is free, however if you go to an authorized or indirect agent, they usually charge 10..

Yes, but there is still a monthly fee to connect to their 3G or 4G data network, right?

hey Dawn you that device is fine however, I would definately make sure it's not on the lost or stolen list before buying. just call 800-922-0204 and you can get that info.. now if you are not a vzw customer you would not have to sign a contract however you would need to reach the sales dept to set up an acct, the activation fee is 35 and is usually not waived when you bring your own equip, however you are not stuck in a contract.. .. the plans for that usually start out at 5gb, so really you need to use the data calculator, which I will post for you, so that you can decide just how much you need, unfortunately we don't offer unlimited anymore, so if you have local internet like comcast or even verizon home service I would suggest that for unlimited use..

Data calculator is here.... http://www.verizonwireless.com/b2c/splash/dataShareCalculator.jsp

just select 1 4g mobile broadband and start calculating.. (my email pods would really help out about now.. lol ) I send this stuff to customers everyday unfortunately I don't have access to it at home..

yes you have to choose a package or if you have already gone to the share everything plan you can simply add it to that and not have to add an individual package... like I mentioned they start out at 5gb for mobile broadband however if you add it to a share everything plan you can choose the amount of data to share between all devices while having unlimited talk and text.. and if you add a line (this would be adding a line even if you already have equip, unless you have a phone line you want to convert.. otherwise you'd need sales, and there is an activation fee for the line)

what services do you have currently.. like what plans smart phones basic?

I was a Verizon "indirect dealer" for about five years and stopped just as the whole "data" thing was getting started. The first "smartphones" had just come out when I quit because Verizon made it way to hard for indirect dealers to compete with their nearby company stores.

Destiny, if you have a data plan with your Smart Phone - you can use your phone as a wifi hotspot.

This recently was settled in court. Cell companies cannot charge you more for doing so.

You can download a free app called "PDAnet" and connect to the Internet through your phone using a data cable, but using a WiFi hotspot app is better because you won't even need the cable and can keep the phone plugged in and charging if you need to.

Check out what Jerry recommended. I didn't need a third party app, I just used the native WiFi hotspot app that comes on a Verizon Android phone, but at the time, you had to be rooted to use it for free and that is no longer the case.

First though, see if in your phones settings, under "wireless & networks" if you have a "3G mobile hotspot" option. If so, check it. You may get some choices about setting a security code, if so, just follow the prompts and choose a password that you'll remember then say "OK" to turn on the WiFi broadcast. Then scan for networks with your laptop and see if your phone shows up. If it does, connect and go!

I just use my phone. Foxfi

was their an increase on your phone bill?

Your "phone company" Verizon, cannot charge anymore for WiFi hotspot service, in fact, using "Foxfi" they won't even know about it although it is perfectly legal. You are paying for a data package from them, it is not their business which devices you choose to use their data service with.

Nope - just like Musky said.
