Julian Beever 3D pavement artist

Recommended Posts

Have you ever seen a Julian Beever's chalk drawn pavement illusions!! He uses a technique called anamorphia, which means they are drawn in 2 dimensions so that when seen from a particular angle they look 3 dimensional especially when he gets members of the passing public to stand or sit in the illusion: http://www.julianbeever.net/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=3&Itemid=4

121422=6714-artisthose.png It is very difficult sometimes to see where the chalk picture ends and the real person or items begin. The bench and girl are real but the snail is partly on the ground and partly drawn on the bench! Only the artist is real in the hose picture, the hose drain and box of chalks are all drawn. Only the man, girl and paddle are genuine as they go down chalk rapids on chalk dinghy. on the diving man picture only the man and the steps are real all the water, docks and planks are drawn.

Incredible!!! This is how the snail one was done.

122008=6751-snailwrongview-i.jpg To draw parts of the snail on the shiny bench, paper had to be cut out and stuck in place on top of and on the side of the bench. Further back, a standing steel pillar in the street was incorporated to make one of the snail's horns.
