Hello all,

This is my first post on this forum. As an active JW, I have been trying to spread some useful information to my fellow JWs that has come to my attention within the past couple years. It is what many call the "soft kill", that Satan's merchant class has been using against the general public. Hopefully, JWs will make it a priority to avoid things which are harmful to their bodies.

1) Water flouridation - Lowers IQ, increases bone cancer risk, etc. See: http://www.fluoridealert.org/

2) Genetically modified foods (GMOs) - Causes sterility, increases cancer/tumor rates, etc. See: http://www.nongmoproject.org/

3) Television - Causes increased low Alpha waves in the brain, which mimics a vegetative-download only state. See: http://www.naturalnews.com/television.html'>http://www.naturalnews.com/television.html

4) Chemical additives to foods - Particularly Aspartame. See: http://www.naturalnews.com/aspartame.html'>http://www.naturalnews.com/aspartame.html

I implore all my fellow JWs to continue educating themselves by reading the WT's publications, and by frequenting independent news sites, such as http://www.drudgereport.com and http://www.naturalnews.com . Jehovah God expects us to treat our bodies as sacred. This is why we do not smoke! Let us have the same conviction with our food!

Let me know what you think of my post. I welcome all constructive criticism!

I think ones are going to have to pry the Mountain Dew from my cold clenched fists :drink:

As to the DrudgeReport - you call it an "independent news sites" :lol1:

WOW!! I would hate to see what you think is a RIGHT leaning site - if that one is independent!!!!!

Yeah, I would steer clear of that one.

The rest sounds like the same old "warnings". In the New World we will have clean water, good food and fresh air - till then -> we will make "Dew".

I thought perhaps some real independent sites would be more appropriate:

1. Fluoridation - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Water_fluoridation_controversy

2. GMO foods - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Genetically_modified_food

3. Television - http://m.wol.jw.org/en/wol/d/r1/lp-e/102000371?q=television&p=par "Using Television Carefully"

4. aspartame - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Aspartame

And for news - I like news.google.com or news.bing.com

Good point. I love how we get balanced advice in our magazines:

http://m.wol.jw.org/en/wol/d/r1/lp-e/102001922?q=genetically+modified&p=par

Food safety is like health. There is no current way to achieve perfection. According to the German magazine natur & kosmos, even among people who are known to take the utmost care in the selection and preparation of food, nutrition is always a compromise. What is beneficial to one can harm another. Is it not wise, then, to cultivate a balanced attitude and avoid extremes?

Of course, the Bible does not tell us what decision to make regarding today’s high-tech foods. But it does teach us about a quality to cultivate that will help us in this matter. Philippians 4:5 says: “Let your reasonableness become known to all men.” Reasonableness can help us to make balanced decisions and avoid extremes. It can hold us back from dictating to others what they should or should not do in the matter. And it can keep us out of pointless, divisive debates with those whose thinking on the subject may differ from our own.

I think for most of us, we have to just do the best we can in what we choose to eat.

We are constantly bombarded with things that tell us, this is good, this is bad, don't eat carbs, some carbs are good, organic is better but yet many people can't afford it. Then we are told to do this or that, then 20 yrs later a new scientific study comes out saying, no don't do this or that, lol. It can be so frustrating.

I think we need to do the best we can, and really hope for the best. I have known people who were super healthy eaters, exercised all the time, did everything right, but yet they still got cancer. Why? Because this is Satan's world, and no matter how well you eat or how much you exercise, you are not immune to all the sicknesses in this world. Yes, eating right and exercising is always the best thing to do, but it does not guarantee you long life in this world. Gene's, environment, exposure, can all cause even the healthiest eaters to get sick.

So, do the best you can in your food choices is great advice, and moderation is very important.

Jehovah's Kingdom will cure all sickness, it is the only hope that we have. Til then, we just have to do the best we can in this world.

herrington,

Thank you for your post. I have been researching some of these things for many years (vaccinations, fluoride, aspartame and other artificial sweeteners and colorings). I feel that anything that you can do to improve the quality of your life, especially if it is just avoiding certain foods and making more healthy choices is important. I feel it is especially important for my children. I know that Jehovah will take care of this in the new system, but I also feel it is my responsibility to take care of my family's health now, to the best of my ability... Spiritually and physically. Just a little bit of research sheds much light on the fact that "those in charge".. not all of them but a majority of them, have blinded many peoples eyes. The healthcare and pharmaceutical industry is a BIG money maker and it's interesting how many people are basically enslaved by the medications prescribed for them. Also many of these things are prescribed because many people have horrendous diets. Don't get me wrong.. sometimes Doctors and prescriptions are needed and it is good that they are available but many people are taken advantage of. I find this sad. But then... I find most of this world sad and I will be glad when it is gone. Thank you again.

Norma,

It seems that you have a balanced view on this topic. I find that many JWs make statements such as Jerry's above:

In the New World we will have clean water, good food and fresh air - till then -> we will make "Dew".

There are a number of JWs I know that have the attitude "Well, the new system will be here soon, so I won't be concerned about my health". One of my family members (Elder) brutalizes his body via not taking care of his diabetes. Seriously, he should be counseled (at the very least). Of course, we don't want to be obsessed about our health. At the same time, we are God's people! How could we knowingly eat dangerous foods that science has shown affects health negatively.

There is a term called "learned helplessness"! Google it!

Much love to all my brothers & sisters!

In the 60's when I was younger, a bunch of the friends started selling vitimans and telling everyone that if they used their products that they would get a hands up on perfection. That couldn't be further from the truth. Another thing I've noticed is that those who are so concerned with their health are not any more healthy than I am. I eat good food but if I had to I could live on peanut butter and jelly sandwitches. Yummy!:eat:

Most vitamin products are just as bad as any other processed, mass produced, manmade pill. Alot of vitamin companies are owned by the Pharmaceutical companies. Actually, peanut butter and jelly is not that bad for you. Unless of course sweetened with aspartame. :)

As long as the peanut butter is made from organic/non GMO peanuts and the jelly has no aspartame in it. Also if the bread could be non-gluten that would be great. Still trying to find a great non-gluten bread recipe. And the proverbial "cherry on the top" would be raw milk. Goatmilk or cows milk.. either one is fine just so it's raw. Seriously though... this IS how I think when I go grocery shopping. I research pretty much everything. I don't believe ANYTHING blindly, whether it pertains to this world or the next. >:D

I don't want to sound mean.. here but the initial poster - herrington- was very sincere in his original post. He was basically asking us to check out some of the information that he felt strongly about. I think some are real close to crossing that line that makes fun of him for feeling so strongly. I mean its fine for others to have their own opinion, and I may get slammed for this, but I feel love for all my brothers and sisters (not that others don't... don't get me wrong please) and I personally don't want in any way to stumble him. I think it is wonderful that someone is taking serious their health. I feel the same way about alot of the things he brought up and this is precisely why I don't usually advertise it.

Sorry, don't mean to stumble anyone here...and I wasn't responding to the initial post...

I was actually responding to yours'! How can one ruin an innocent peanut butter & jelly sandwich and a glass of milk?!

:hugs:You get the 'buzzkill' award. LOL

(From Wiktionary:

buzzkill (plural buzzkills)

1.Something or someone that spoils an otherwise enjoyable event.)

Yea, you had better stay away from those raisins Jerry, they're deadly to dogs. Not saying that you are a dog, just knowing you have a dog. They kill their kidneys and are worse than grapes. It is amazing how many people foods we give our pets without researching first if it will do harm.
