With My Eye Upon You” — When the Path Feels Hidden
“I will give you insight and instruct you in the way you should go. I will give you advice with my eye upon you.” — Psalm 32:8 (NWT)
There are seasons in life that feel like wandering through shadow—where each step forward is uncertain and the next decision weighs like a stone. Sometimes it comes with a diagnosis. Sometimes with a phone call that changes everything. And in those moments, the words of David ring not just as poetry, but as lifelines:
“I will give you insight… I will give you advice… with my eye upon you.”
But if we’re honest—really honest—there are days when it’s hard to feel that.
When exhaustion buries clarity.
When even our prayers feel like sighs.
You may know what that’s like.
Maybe you’re caring for someone you love—really caring for them. Not just the polite check-ins or brief visits, but the daily vigil of medications, emotional support, and watching pain that you can’t take away. You’ve asked Jehovah for strength. You’ve begged for wisdom. You’ve done everything you know how to do. And yet, the burden remains.
And then come the complications.
Doctors don’t agree.
Appointments contradict.
And just when you reach for comfort—perhaps from family—you’re met with misunderstanding, or silence, or even criticism.
And you wonder: Does Jehovah still see me?
But He does.
In fact, the harder the path, the more tender His gaze. Psalm 32:8 is not just a promise—it’s a presence. Jehovah isn’t shouting from far off. He’s leaning in, with His eye upon you. Watching. Guiding. Whispering wisdom not always loud, but always there.
The apostle Paul knew that feeling. As he faced trial after trial, betrayal and imprisonment, he described one of his darkest moments as being “in the lion’s mouth.” (2 Timothy 4:17) And yet, it wasn’t fear that dominated his words—it was trust.
Because Paul knew what David had once written:
Jehovah gives insight.
Jehovah gives instruction.
Jehovah gives advice—and does it all with loving attentiveness.
He sees when you hold back tears for someone else’s sake.
He notices when you choose kindness instead of bitterness.
He understands the prayers you can’t even form into words.
So what about us?
We might not always understand the way. But we know the One leading it. And His promises are not vague. He is not distant. When the walls close in, when you feel you’re nearing the lion’s mouth—that is when His eye is most watchful.
“David strengthened himself by Jehovah his God.” — 1 Samuel 30:6
You can do the same.
And when relief finally comes—whether in the form of healing, endurance, or the quiet gift of peace—you’ll find something else has happened, too:
Your relationship with Jehovah will be stronger.
Because the road that bruises your feet often becomes the one that strengthens your faith.
“I will give you insight and instruct you in the way you should go. I will give you advice with my eye upon you.” — Psalm 32:8
He sees you.
He hears you.
And He walks with you—every trembling step of the way.
