“The One Who Promised Is Faithful” - A Promise That Warms the Coldest Days
A Scriptural Consideration Entry
“Let us hold firmly the public declaration of our hope without wavering, for the one who promised is faithful.” —Hebrews 10:23
The wind howled against the windowpanes, frost etching delicate ferns across the glass. Outside, the world was locked in ice—barren trees, empty streets, a silence that seemed to stretch endlessly. In such moments, summer can feel like a dream we barely remember. Will warmth ever return? And yet, year after year, it does.
So too, Jehovah’s promises.
When the nights of suffering feel too long, when grief bites like winter’s chill, it may feel as though the new world will never come. But feelings do not define faith. Even the strongest believer can feel weary. The psalmist cried, “How long, O Jehovah?” (Psalm 94:3). Yet in the very same song, he also affirmed, “Jehovah will not forsake his people.” (Psalm 94:14)
That contrast does not expose weak faith—it reveals a tested one.
Abraham waited decades for the promised son. Israel longed centuries for the Messiah. The early Christians expected relief but endured brutal persecution. In every case, the promise was kept. “It is impossible for God to lie,” Paul wrote, pointing to the “hope set before us” as “an anchor for the soul.” (Hebrews 6:17-19)
So what about us?
We too are anchored—not in circumstances, but in Jehovah’s faithfulness. When trials shake our footing, we don’t tighten our grip on our own strength—we renew our trust in His strength. Strong faith is not loud; it’s steady. It shows itself not in feelings of certainty, but in continued worship—especially when it’s hard.
And one of the greatest expressions of that faith? The preaching work.
To many, the good news seems too beautiful to be real. “You really believe paradise is coming?” they ask, as though our hope is naïve. But their skepticism need not steal our joy. Instead, it highlights our trust. We know why we believe—because “the one who promised is faithful.” So we speak, not because everyone listens, but because Jehovah does.
Like a blossom that dares to bloom while snow still lingers, our public declaration of hope warms hearts in a cold world.
Even now, as we wait, the signs of approaching summer are everywhere—signs that His new world is not far off. (Matthew 24:14)
Let us hold fast.
Let us preach boldly.
Let us worship without wavering.
Because the One who promised—Jehovah—is faithful.
