“The Sky Isn’t the End”
— a Glimpse of Wonder entry™ —
For most birds, flight isn’t the finish line. It’s the starting point.
The chick grows. It hatches. It walks. It learns to fly — and we cheer, because that feels like the goal. The summit. The release. But flight is only the beginning of a much greater journey.
Now come migrations. Now come storms. Now come hunger, risk, and the wide unknown.
A bird must learn to trust the wind — to ride thermals, to adjust for crosscurrents, to keep going even when the way is obscured.
And that’s us, too.
We pray for growth, and Jehovah grants it. We lift off. We feel strong. Then life shifts — a loss, a detour, an unexpected weight. Suddenly the question isn’t Can I take off? but Can I keep going?
Spiritual growth doesn’t peak with progress. It deepens through endurance.
Even the best flyers don’t soar nonstop. They flap. They rest. They veer and correct. Migrating birds cross thousands of miles — not with ease, but with resolve. They adapt, not by quitting, but by trusting the currents that carry them.
Jehovah asks no constant perfection — only steady faith. He strengthens. He redirects. He provides rest stops along the way.
That’s why Psalm 84:5–7 (NWT) promises: “Happy is the man whose strength is in you… As they pass through the Valley of Baca, they make it a place of springs… They go from strength to strength.”
Flight is beautiful. But it isn’t final.
The sky is not the destination — only the next stretch.
And Jehovah flies with you.
