A day with the Supremes

Many decisions handed down today, some good and some terrifying. First, the good: they upheld what is known as birthright citizenship (i.e., if you are born in the USA you have the rights of any citizen). The margin was 5-4
Wow.
Four Justices (judges) literally voted to state that when a republican is president, they outrank the actual, literal text of the Constitution. So the Constitution is..unconstitutional.
Wow.
Justice Clarence Thomas dissented. This is what he is disagreeing with: Section 1. All persons born or naturalized in the United States, and subject to the jurisdiction thereof, are citizens of the United States and of the State wherein they reside. No State shall make or enforce any law which shall abridge the privileges or immunities of citizens of the United States; nor shall any State deprive any person of life, liberty, or property, without due process of law; nor deny to any person within its jurisdiction the equal protection of the laws.
Now for the terrifying part. Just reading part of the dissenting opinion on this case... the main reason for that dissent from Uncle Thomas was that "under the common law, "citizenship turns on allegiance."
This means to him and the other two judges being born here isn't enough. People must swear an oath of allegiance to... something... as well. Interestingly such oaths, affirmations or promises are often not legally binding until the person is at least 18 years of age.
An oath of allegiance. Not a pledge, an oath.
