Censored Movies

Ever since DVDs were released, we thought it was a bit silly that with them clearly having the capability to include lots of different audio tracks (they often include audio tracks in different languages, tracks with directors commentary, tracks for different speaker systems, etc.) they never thought to include a track with the swearing removed.

 

(Actually, I had once seen this option offered on a download, on a stand-up comedy show about science by a group called Festival of the Spoken Nerd - I recommend having a look at some of their stuff on YouTube if you're interested in maths and science, I think all the stuff they put on YouTube is clean.)

 

Anyway, after 20 years of wondering why no distributor cashed in on this gaping hole in the market (since we would all have been far more likely to buy from any distributor who offered this option), Sony has actually offered it, albeit with only a small selection of their films (though they do say it's just a pilot program).  And the surrounding industry, instead of recognising what a sensible idea it is to offer the paying public the options they want, is complaining vociferously.

One might almost suspect that those directors (like many comedians) are secretly aware that sex and swearing are used to distract stupid audiences from how badly written some of their stories are, and are worried that if their films are seen without those distractions, then the writers and directors of said films will be seen for the talentless hacks they are.
