Thursday, January 2

He was moved with pity for them.—Mark 6:34.

Note the reason why Jesus felt pity, which can reflect fellow feeling. He observed that the people “were as sheep without a shepherd.” Maybe Jesus saw that some of them were poor and were working long hours to provide for their families. Perhaps others were dealing with the loss of a loved one. If so, Jesus could likely relate to their situation. He may have faced some of these problems himself. Jesus was concerned about others, and he felt moved to bring them a message of comfort. (Isa. 61:1, 2) What do we learn from Jesus’ example? Like Jesus, we are surrounded by people who are “as sheep without a shepherd.” They struggle with many problems. We have what they need—the Kingdom message. (Rev. 14:6) So in imitation of our Master, we preach the good news because we “have pity on the lowly and the poor.” (Ps. 72:13) We feel for people, and we want to do something to help them. w19.03 21-22 ¶6-7

For beautiful eyes, look for the good in others; for beautiful lips, speak only words of kindness; and for poise, walk with the knowledge that you are never alone.

This morning I had the opportunity to work with a Canadian couple who are visiting at the moment.  We went out to do some of our rural territory, which was a good choice as it was very hot and the air conditioning in the car worked overtime.

Our mid week meeting suggested we be adaptable in the ministry and we were able to apply that with the different folk we met.  They are indeed like sheep without a Shepherd and we do need to ascertain what each individual is struggling with encourage them to look into God's word.  When we leave literature I always encourage them to look up the scriptures quoted as our purpose is to get them acquainted with Jehovah's word and see what he is trying to tell us.

We enjoyed doing that with those we found at home and after three hours we were rewarded with two large watermelons from some folk in a large shed who were sending them off to market.

We are feeling for all those caught up in the current bushfires as some of our Brothers have been involved.  It is the worst situation we have ever had to face and many have suffered and it will obviously be a talking point in days to come.  May Jehovah's spirit be with our Brothers to endure and to have empathy for those who have lost much.
