I found the original JW Box

Recommended Posts

Remember the "JW Box" article from 3 years ago?
https://www.jw.org/en/library/series/how-your-donations-are-used/A-Small-Box-That-Delivers-Spiritual-Food/

It was about this device used for distributing our media & publications to brothers and sisters in areas without internet access. I've read discussions about it on this forum but I'm surprised no one linked the original travel AC router they used: https://www.amazon.com/GL-iNet-GL-AR750-300Mbps-pre-Installed-Included/dp/B07712LKJM

Not that most people here would actually need such a device, just thought it was an interesting piece of JW trivia.

Thank you for posting this. I was just looking at some of the GL.iNet travel routers and thinking to myself... I wonder if I could make my own JW Box with a usb A thumb drive etc. More of a hobby idea in case there was some restriction put on the organization in the States. But then saw this post that the original JW Box does seem to be made by GL.iNet!

Other possible backup solutions for transferring JW Pub files or PDF's etc during an internet outage or some other restriction on access.

Device to device like Air Drop etc. Just need to zip the files first and then Air Drop them over from something like the Files app. Though it looks like there may be some cooperation with Air Drop and Google Pixel's now, hopeful that spreads to all Android devices. (iPhone Users Can Now AirDrop Files to Android Devices)

And there are several iOS apps I have that allow WiFi file sharing while on the same network. I've tried this when putting my phone in hotpot mode but it didn't seem to work back when I tried it. I wonder if I put my wife's phone in hotspot mode and then connected my device as a WiFi server (Goodreader or Documents by Readdle) and see if the specific files could be accessed with both test devices connected to her hotspot. Though I'm not sure if the hotspot feature could be enabled on an iPhone if not connected to a cell tower because of outage or no service.

I guess.. this could be my digital version of hiding old publications in the walls and floors. 😃
