My brother, David, has been experiencing heart and kidney issues for years.    I went up to see him sometimes in the hospital.

We had been texting for a couple of weeks before this we had no relationship.   I've asked him so many times why he cut me out of his life and he said that it was nothing that I did.

The last time that I went and saw him was with my great niece and niece. I bought him a strawberry banana smoothie to give him a little treat.   We talked and talked and he showed me videos of his dog and the kittens at his house.  I thought that things had finally changed. My niece even said "Wow.  You guys were talking like you've been talking your whole lives"  and that made me smile.     But they didn't.  He stopped responding to my texts.    I sent him a letter in the mail begging him to answer me that I was worried.   Nothing.

Yesterday I found out that my brother is in the hospital again and not doing well.    He was struggling to talk, breathe and they had him on a stroke watch,  before they discovered that he'd had  a seizure.  Now he's on a DNR.

My great niece (A different one from the one who brought me up to see him before) texted me at 7 something this morning (I was still sleeping)  and said that if I can find a ride to her town that I could ride with her and her brother to where my brother is in the hospital. (27 miles from where my great niece is)   I saw the text at 9:30.   I told her that I didn't have a ride thinking that she'd say "We'll come there to get you."  (I'm only 17.5 miles away).  Nope.     They know that I don't have a car.  Or a driver's license.

All i can do now is hope in the resurrection, but it's just so hurtful that they wouldn't drive the extra 17.5 miles to get me, so I could see my brother one last time in this system.

My brother and I lost a father together at a young age.  I was 9 and he was 11.      We were close as kids, but not once we became teens.

I honestly hate this system and just want it gone.
