How Shopping Malls Are Being Transformed Into Apartments In The U.S.

Recommended Posts

For many years it was not uncommon to live in an apartment above a business in some big cities. When I lived in Washington State, I lived in a studio apartment aboves businesses. I liked it as I was able to get to know the business owners. I have been to some dead malls lately, for example Lloyd Center in Portland. The area that the mall is located is not ideal, but the building itself is really cool. They still have an indoor ice rink right in the middle of the mall. They have 3 floors and I would live in an apartment on the third floor.

This is the kind of creativity I want to see in the NS. We could have the store areas for salvaged goods taken from abandoned buildings, some restaurants to feed the locals, and the apartments for those whose primary job is in some way involved in the salvage work.
