Good corn

Recommended Posts

Once upon a time there was a farmer who grew prize-winning corn. Every year he won a blue ribbon with his corn.

That year, a newspaper reporter interviewed him and learned something interesting about why his corn grew so well. The reporter had noticed that the farmer was sharing his seed with his neighbor.

“How can you afford to share your best seed with your neighbor when you're in competition every year?” the reporter asked.

“Yes, you know, sir,” said the farmer, ”the wind carries pollen from the ripe corn and swirls it from field to field. If my neighbor's corn grows poorly, the quality of my corn would get worse due to cross-pollination. If I want good corn, I have to help my neighbor grow good corn.”

These are the interrelationships of life. I can't improve my corn unless my neighbor's corn improves too.

That's how it is in our lives. If I want to live in peace, I have to help my neighbor to live in peace. If I want a good life, I must help others to live well. The value of life is measured by the life it touches. Those who want to be happy must help others to find happiness. The well-being of each individual is linked to the well-being of others.

The lesson for us is this: If we want to have good corn, we must help our neighbor to also have good corn.

It is possible to give something away and become richer as a result. It is possible to hold on to everything, to hold on and lose everything. Yes, the liberal man will be rich! By watering others, he waters himself.

(Philippians 2:4) . . .not only keeping your own interests in mind, but also taking a personal interest in the interests of others.

(1 Corinthians 10:24) 24 Let each one continually seek not his own [advantage] but the advantage of others.
