Tuesday, June 24 When anxieties overwhelmed me, you comforted and soothed me.—Ps. 94:19.

Tuesday, June 24

When anxieties overwhelmed me, you comforted and soothed me.—Ps. 94:19.

In the Bible, faithful servants of God speak of times when they were in distress and trembling because of their enemies or other pressures. (Ps. 18:4; 55:1, 5) Similarly, we could be facing opposition at school, at work, from our family, or from the government. We could even be facing death because of a medical problem. During such times, we may feel as helpless as a small child. How does Jehovah help us in moments like these? He comforts and soothes us. So regularly spend time with Jehovah—praying to him and reading his Word. (Ps. 77:1, 12-14) Then when you are under stress, your first thought will likely be to turn to your heavenly Father. Share your fears and concerns with Jehovah. Let him talk to you and console you through the Scriptures.—Ps. 119:28. w24.01 24-25 ¶14-16

You can't walk with God while holding hands with the Devil.

It’s easy to feel weak when fear overwhelms us. The panic, the tightness in the chest, the racing thoughts—these are not signs that we’ve failed as Christians. They are signs that we’re human. Jehovah knows this. That’s why, instead of rebuking us for trembling, he draws closer and soothes us (Psalm 94:19). The Hebrew word used here suggests gentle care—like a parent rubbing a frightened child’s back in the dark.

In modern life, anxiety can come from anywhere. Maybe it’s opposition at work, subtle mocking at school, cold silence from a mate, or relentless pain in the body. Perhaps we don’t even know why we feel overwhelmed—it just rises like a tide that won’t recede. But what if, in those moments, we let Jehovah’s Word speak louder than our fear?

What if we paused to read just one psalm aloud, even through tears?

What if we whispered, “Help me,” knowing the One listening already knows our need?

What if, instead of fighting the anxiety alone, we told Jehovah exactly how it feels and trusted that he would not leave us there?

Because he doesn’t. “My soul has been sleepless from grief. Strengthen me according to your word.” (Psalm 119:28) His comfort is not a vague warmth—it’s specific, personal, timed just right. Maybe a friend texts. Maybe a circuit overseer shares a verse. Maybe a song comes to mind. These are not coincidences. They are the touch of Jehovah’s hand.

And even if the storm doesn’t end, he is with us in it.

That’s what David learned. That’s what every faithful servant discovers. Jehovah doesn’t always remove the cause of our fear right away. But he never withholds his presence. And in the quiet space between sobs or the stillness of a sleepless night, that presence can be enough to help us keep going.

“When my anxious thoughts multiplied within me,” David wrote—not if, but when. Because such times will come. But so will Jehovah. Every time.

He will comfort. He will soothe.

And he will not be late.
