Let's Get Together for a Picnic

Recommended Posts

Our new CO started the service year with our congregation.  What an incredible week!! One of his talks was about getting to know your brothers and sisters.  Get to know 10 things about them.  And so the call of a picnic was made.  It is a spontaneous let's do this and it will be held this upcoming Sunday at a local park.  Many are elderly and many with ailments but we agreed it is vital to get together.  For us it has been far too long and too many new names we do not know.

It is a simple bring your own eats and chair and just for the 2 hours.  It is vital that people mingle ... I see how easy it is for groups to stay the same be it families or ones that just have always hung out together.  There are so many that feel like "outsiders" that could use a hug - myself included.

And so ... Desperately looking for some wholesome spiritually upbuilding and fun ice breaker and getting to know each other activities regardless of age or mobility.  Do people leave with a fun spiritual goody bag? Any thoughts?

Besides the fun activities of say bubbles and sack races and kicking a ball we would so love for people to learn things about each other.  It was suggested something like a speed dating table but instead the immobile ones stay and others under the timer of sorts go from table to table getting to know about each other.

With questions like: How did you learn the truth? Which book did you study when you came into the truth? Your favourite verse? Have you been on international conventions?

I dunno... thoughts? Most appreciated!!!

What a great idea Sister Jenny from the west, I suppose. We're (Easterners) having a farewell gathering this Saturday. The Indonesian sisters are pulling all the stops to cook up a feast. It will be good to have a spiritual goodie bag to take home as well. Financially my congregation is quite poor but the government did give some of us (its citizenry) money to buy essentials for the household like pens, notebooks etc. I suggested that some of us use the money to buy some fanciful stationery to gift to someone in the congregation (randomly given) to record particulars about a few friends.

Questions related to the truth : What would your New System home be like? Where would she like to travel in the future? Favourite travel destination?

Nothing too personal. Just ordinary facts related to everyday living. (favourite color, what car would you like to buy)

I  would also be writing some scriptures on fancy paper to give out to attendees as mementos to take home. Reading it out aloud would be encouraged.

Scientists have discovered that daydreaming is an important tool 🎨for creativity. It causes a rush 🌊 of activity in a circuit, which connects different parts of the brain and allows the mind to make new associations.

Took a while. but here is some suggested questions:

  • What was the first Bible verse you ever memorized?

  • Do you have a favorite Kingdom song? Which one?

  • What congregation activity (field service, meetings, assemblies) do you enjoy the most, and why?

  • Have you ever had a favorite part of JW Broadcasting?

  • What Bible account inspires you most when you’re tired or discouraged?

  • Have you ever met a brother or sister from another country? What did you learn?

  • What is your favorite thing about your current congregation?

  • Do you remember a talk that really stuck with you? What was it about?

  • If you could choose one place to serve in the New World, where would it be?

  • Which fruit of the spirit (Galatians 5:22-23) do you most appreciate seeing in others?

  • What animal do you look forward to seeing in paradise?

  • What’s your favorite meal to bring to a gathering?

  • If you had to pick one outdoor spot (beach, mountain, park) to relax, which would it be?

  • Do you prefer early-morning or afternoon field service?

  • Which Bible character would you have loved to meet?
