Sunday, December 7

Read it in an undertone day and night, in order to observe carefully all that is written in it; for then your way will be successful and then you will act wisely.—Josh. 1:8.

A Christian woman needs to develop practical skills. Some skills that a girl learns in childhood will continue to benefit her throughout her life. For example, learn to read and write well. In some cultures, reading and writing are not considered to be important skills for women to learn. However, they are essential skills for every Christian. (1 Tim. 4:13) So do not allow any obstacle to stop you from learning to read and write well. How will you be rewarded? Such skills may help you to find and keep a job. You will become a better student and teacher of God’s Word. Best of all, you will draw closer to Jehovah as you read his Word and meditate on it.—1 Tim. 4:15. w23.12 20 ¶10-11

You can't walk with God while holding hands with the Devil.

Joshua heard Jehovah say, “Read it in an undertone day and night… for then your way will be successful and then you will act wisely” — Josh 1:8.

Those words were given to a man stepping into a role he had never carried before. Strength would not come from talent. Wisdom would not come from experience. His footing would come from the quiet, steady rhythm of letting Jehovah’s voice enter his mind again and again until obedience became instinct.

The same pattern sits inside the counsel about reading and writing. The world may decide those skills matter for some but not for others—but Jehovah does not design His sons and daughters to live by someone else’s limits. He hands each of us a book that reveals His heart, and He invites us to handle it well, to let its sound settle into the inner places where decisions are formed.

When we keep at it—when we fight through obstacles, fatigue, discouragement, or the voice that says “you’re not able”—Jehovah notices the effort. The skills grow. But something deeper grows with them. We begin to sense His nearness in the very act of reading. We catch His tone in the pages. We see His patience in the way He deals with imperfect people. And little by little, His thinking starts guiding ours.

That’s the real success Joshua 1:8 points to—not applause, not personal achievement, but the quiet courage that comes from walking in step with the One who speaks through His Word. And every time we return to that Word, whether stumbling or confident, Jehovah draws a little closer. — Josh 1:8; 1 Tim 4:13; 1 Tim 4:15.
